This is the morning show I listen to every morning, they send out Todd (one of the morning guys) to wreak havoc at the picket lines. They are completely against the strike as it is causing students to miss class, and prolong thier school year

Listen Here

EDIT The point of this thread is NOT the strike itself, its the radio show going down there and making fun of them....removing barricades and such

There have been similar "strikes" within the UC system as well...

While I may not think TA is the kind of job that someone would strike over, I wouldn't fuck with anyone on a picket line.

I can't see why this should affect students in the slightest. Go to class, do your work. Let the Professor deal with the bullshit...they work for him/her anyway.

A couple 'regulated' classes are already back at school such as York Law; thinking about going there.

Regardless, most of the students' school years/careers are effed now thanks to their strike.

When I was in undergrad the TAs went on strike. It didn't impact me as my professors just did more work themselves or had their RAs help out. It may help that I was almost done and so the class sizes weren't huge. I can't imagine one person grading the hundreds of tests/homework from the lower level courses.

I went back to the same school for grad years later. The union had normalized all of the TA wages so that you got the same pay regardless of whether you worked for an underfunded school (frequently the liberal arts schools) or a well funded school (sciences and engineering). The good thing that was put in was that once the offer was made and accepted you would get the pay even if the class had to be canceled. This was important since you would cancel loans/insurance on the basis of having a position and having it pulled out from under you would suck.

I still find the whole thing kind of ridiculous, it is by its very nature a temp. job and it seemed pretty dumb to join a union just to TA a couple classes.

They have been on strike for a month now, old news. Jewish school, what can you do, they pay their support staff beans so strikes have to happen. I used to work as a TA in a regular school, made descent money but should of made much more for the work we put in, which is more than teachers most of the time. How much do the univ TA's in Canada get paid?

Yeah, pretty lame.

The cocksuckers at U of T are voting to go on strike as we speak. Being a TA, that's the last thing I want. Fuck these cunts.

Voted NO

The strike is not the point of the thread....the funny link in the OP is the point of the thread
