DA: Upper Dublin teacher arrested, gave ‘sex device’ to student

Montgomery County authorities on Friday arrested an Upper Dublin High School teacher for allegedly trading sexually explicit text messages with a female special education student, giving her a vibrator at the school and urging her to masturbate with it.

Cheryl Bremble, a 40-year-old special education teacher, "encouraged the juvenile to use the device on numerous occasions during text message conversations," said Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and Upper Dublin Police Chief Terrence Thompson.

Ferman called the crime "particularly repulsive when you consider the fact you're dealing with vulnerable child in the special education program."

Bremble, a divorced mother of two who lives in Hatboro, was charged with child endangerment, corruption of minor and unlawful contact with a minor.

She could not be reached for comment.

Upper Dublin Superintendent Michael Pladus said that Bremble, a teacher in the district since 2000, has been suspended and that the district took "all the necessary actions" to notify parents. He declined to elaborate other than to say the district is cooperating with investigators.

"Any allegation of improper communication or solicitation involving a member of our faculty or staff will absolutely not be tolerated," he said.

Prosecutors did not identify the alleged victim, but said Bremble spent "a lot of time" with the girl outside school, including shopping trips where she bought her gifts.

They say Bremble and the girl had sexually explicit conversations "in person and via text messages." She also allegedly gave the girl the sex device on the high school campus during school hours and encouraged her to use it "on numerous occasions during text message conversations."

Ferman said investigators have no evidence of other victims, but urge the public to report any information that might pertain to the case.

Bremble had been a reading teacher in the high school's learning support program for 11 years, according to a resume she posted online. Before that, she worked briefly in the Centennial School District.

She was arraigned Friday before District Judge Patricia Zaffarano in Ambler and released on $25,000 bail.

Her divorce was only finalized in recent weeks, according to her former father-in-law, Thomas Bremble Sr. He said his son Thomas and former daughter-in-law share custody of two children, ages 12 and 5.

Thomas Bremble Sr. was stunned at the news on Friday.

"It shocks the bejesus out of me," he said.

I feel there is a substantive difference between giving a vibrator to someone and demanding they use it while they communicate with you.

More disturbing than the usual such incident because this was a special education student, so there's a potential real element of her taking advantage of someone who's not really able to see the ramifications of what's going on. This isn't at all like the lucky 16yo boy who gets to bang the hot teacher, she's actually seeming to be a predator here.

Umm, wut? How was the child endangered? And WTF @ Corruption of a minor? Sounds like some puritanical law from the 1700's

The sexting was clearly wrong. The giving of the vibrator might be considered OK if this were sex ed but it's not. Telling her she should masturbate is perfectly fine. The punishment should depend on the severity of the text messages she sent. If they were predatory in nature then she deserves a harsher punishment. However at first glance "child endangerment, corruption of minor and unlawful contact with a minor" seem a little over the top.

> masturbate furiously

sounds like a possible sequel to Nic Cage's new movie, Drive Angry.

once i knew an employee who masturbated in her car at lunch-time. sort of a combination of the 2.
