If I wanted to ship a couple of boxes 16 pds each, they are electronics equipment worth $300 each. What steps do I have to take to make sure it's a smooth ship to Canada? I will be using USPS.

It will cost you $24.95 each including insurance for 16lbs package. USPS link.. I hope it works

You will have to fill out customs forms at the Post Office.
 
You must also consider what catagory the parcel shall be. Gift will cut down the duty owed by the receiver.
