Teach me how to CO my AMD64 3000+ with Asus A8V

Hi i have a


AMD64 3000+ S939
Asus A8V
2x Samsung 256mb DDR400
Original CPU Fan (NOT PLANNING TO BUY A BETTER ONE)


if anyone one have a Asus A8V and with the same CPU,
can u guide me through the settings in the BIOS plz......

Dont have your setup but the proceedure is much the same --
in bios -- find the agp/pci divider ratio's -- set them manually to 66/33 mhz
2 - not sure of the overclockability of your memory, so find the memory speed option -- change from auto or whatever to 1 below the highest setting (166mhz)
3 - find the fsb ratio and set it to manual; changing this will then increase your cpu clock -- your 3000+ has a stock multiplier of 9 ; the stock fsb is 200 ; therefore gets you your 1800mhz speed.... by changing the fsb to say 210mhz you get the clock to be 1890mhz -- 90 extra mhz...... keep upping the fsb 5 or so mhz at a time and then testing for stability
when it starts to hang - you know you've reached your limit

bbtw. ... step 2 mentions the memory setting of 166mhz --- if you get the fsb past 240, you will need to lower it to 133mhz

how about the CPU voltages? should i increase it?

the normal AMD64 3000+ S939 is about 1.4v-1.5v

if u go higher u have to increase ur CPU voltage. U will also need to increase ur RAM voltage. It all depends on how far ur RAM can go. In the end make sure u test ur system with Prime 95. Max FSB abit AV8 can go is 280. If u get anything below that, means ur Memory is holding u bak. And make sure u lower the HT to 800 FSB. Most likely ur memory can reach 240 FSB, but make sure u up the memeory voltage abit. and play around with it. GL

do i have to oc my ram, i just got 2x Samsung DDR400, really cheap ram....


if i am just going to oc to about 2.0G than, now much Voltages do u think i will need?

is CPU Voltage 1.6v safe? i just oc it to 2.02G and my fd tells me don't get the vCore too high...

i dont uderstand your second point?

u mean run ram at 166mhz....run fsb at say 220, so ur running in a ratio an not 1:1? when i overclocked (dont seen as a 3200 A64 is plenty fast) i used to jus set 10% in the bios and all that would do is set my fsb to 220, the ram n that was on auto so that too went to the 220mhz, so i had a 880mhz HT and a DDR440 worked fine, but never kept it like that. i thought if uupped the FSB u had to up the ram according ly as the two are linked?

all i know of is when u get to round 230-240 u have to reduce HT multiplier to 3 unless ur board can handle close to 1000ht, and mabye reduce the cpu multipiler one

the op has crappy ram -- therefore needs to use the memory ratio to downclock his ram back to under 200mhz speeds -- if you have good ram then your sys can run a 1:1 ratio -- the fsb and memory are linked but you can ratio them out to 5:6 or 2:3 or 1:2 in order to find a sweet spot for your memory
there are plenty of people running ddr500 sticks at 1:1 ratio with a fsb of 270+ --- they are l33t cause they are rich 😛

i think "1:1" on the a8v is fubared, if i turn on "1:1", the memory runs at 100mhz, instead of 200mhz if i put on auto lolz.

really? can anyone else confirm this? -- planning on getting this mobo soon
