oh, and HAVE YOUR BETS READY before you get to the window. Walk up, place your bets, pay, collect tickets. Shouldn't take more then 30 seconds.

Best advice so far; lines get long on big race days. Don't be the jackass taking 10 minutes at the window. Idiots like this almost cost me in the Belmont Stakes last year.

Big Brown is pretty much a shoe-in so what you should do is bet one of the exotics, exacta/trifecta/superfecta, put Big Brown on top with some other horses boxed. So, let's say Big Brown is number 5 and you wanted to bet a trifecta, you could pick 3 other horses and it would be like this:

5-1-2
5-1-3
5-2-1
5-2-3
5-3-1
5-3-2

So you would say $1 trifecta box, 5 on top with 1,2,3 .. and it would cost you $6. Throw some longshots in there and you could make some good money, especially if you bet more than $1.

good luck

Big brown is the horse to beat, and he looks great. But the trainer is running him on a 2 furlong work the DAY of the race. That will be his only work I believe. So that will be a good indicator of if he's ready. The trainers must know something because there's been a lot of movement in who's running.

Even with big brown on top some decent odds horses coming in 2 and 3rd could yield a nice tri. The derby was $3600. And if big brown doesn't come in the money (1, 2, 3) the tri will be out of this world.

Also, this morning I saw big brown at 1-2. So, you would lose money on that bet?

no.
it just means you win half of your bet.

in this example youre betting 10 bucks to win 5, b/c Big Brown is so heavily favored.

You can use a credit card, right?

I've never seen it accepted, then again never tried because it would be treated like a cash advance. Take cash as the lines at an ATM will be long.

Also, the odds change depending on how much money is bet on a particular horse. Big Brown is going to be bet down even more.

if you want to just piss away money, can you give me some, yoru odds of winning millions after giving me money arnt really much worse then betting on horses

Not if you know what you are doing. Plenty of people make a living just out of playing the ponies.

The more I look at this race there is a TON of money to be made. Racecar Rhapsody could be a really good bet being a closer if big brown gets stuck in traffic (not all that likely, he'll get into 2nd or 3rd early and follow pace or set it early). I think he'll get a piece of the finish.

So there's your tip. 10 dollars across the board on Racecar Rhapsody.

I never bet on hot tips. 😀

And yes there is potential for big money; almost every horse is at long odds 8-1 or higher. Article about Racecar in our daily paper today.

I would like to see BB win the Triple Crown, so I can say I've seen it (actually remember it)in my lifetime.

save yourself some money and dont gamble. Handicapping horses is very hard.

Pretty much. There is sophisticated software that exists which tracks hundreds of variables and knows how to place bets accordingly without getting caught. Wired had an article on it a while ago. Other then that, if you want to bet on "sports" at least stick to one where you can know the players.

Its called Computerized Robotic Wagering or CRW for short. Nifty stuff, but the US tracks dislike it.
Most of the companies/people that use it are located offshore in the Caribbean.

I like the name, so why not?
😀 Thanks for all the advice spidey. I'll be sure to let you know how I make out.

If you want to gamble, do a 3 horse exacta box on the next lowest odds horse and two others in the middle of the odds board. 12 dollar bet that could easily pay 500+

If Big Brown doesn't win it the payouts are going to be huge.

I'll be watching and playing on saturday so if you win you have to wave your ticket in the air and point to the camera, that way I know it's you that won. In fact, put your hand on your head and then point to the camera with your ticket.

If you lose, give me/the camera a big middle finger.

LMAO; I'll do that for the Belmont. Gonna go again this year. Was at the finish line last year with a $30 win bet on Rags to Riches. I made out great that day, especially when I hit a $98 exacta with a $4 bet in an earlier race. But win or lose, I sure do love a day at the track.

A good day at the track = full belly, slight buzz and the same amount of money you went in with.
A great day is the same and at LEAST one W-2G, better if it's 3 of them. 😉

OP - take your social security card in case you get a trifecta.

The full belly can be debateable depending on where you go. The food at Belmont is not so great. Now Saratoga on the other hand is wonderful; great food and atmosphere to go with exciting racing.

Better pick a different horse. He scratched (meaning he is not in the race).

Big Brown is a 1 to 9 right now.

Seriously, if he doesn't win it there is some serious money to be made.

I used to work at a race track. Detroit Race Course. When they are walking to the starting gate the first one that poops. Bet on that one

Yeah, that means they are hungry.

C'mon Big Brown!!! Don't poop!!!

So I ended up losing $25. None of my bets hit in the big race. 🙁

I did hit a couple trifectas in earlier races and won about $70 which was awesome. 😀 Overall, it was a blast.

I saw that the payouts for most of the days races were pretty low. Congrats on the tri. If you want to see what trifectas can be look payouts for race #10

I got the exacts for the preakness and also 10 bucks across the board on Macho Again, who went off at 35-1. Won enough to cover the day and then some.

Big Brown has a VERY good shot at a triple crown winner, he's just too good and there's nobody to really challenge him.
