My blue heelers are too active to get fat. I just keep their feeder full and they eat what they need.

if you meter out the food from the start they won't be able to control themselves. my dog had 24/7 access to dry kibble and regulated its weight just fine. the key is boring kibble and the fact that they know its always there. then its only a eat when hungry thing.

dog still goes ape sh*t for human food/treats of course. but regular sustenance is rather indifferent to.

your dog is related to my mom's dog. i swear he will only eat dog food if someone hand feeds him. but he's spoiled... and knows when someone is sitting down at the table there's usually a snack headed his way. :(
