hmmm...bare drive with no cable or manual and you have to buy Nero with it (for an extra $10...so the site says). may still be a good deal, i'll have to investigate further!...taserT

dingdong...yeah, i know you can get nero free, but according to the site that's selling the teac you have to buy nero (extra $10) in order to get the teac for $147....at least that's the way i read it. So that would make the purchase about $157!....taserT

I have the 512EB and it does have "burnproof." Nero 5.0 with their latest patch recognizes it as having burnproof. With the firmware upgrade it'll dance with CloneCD...and it's fast.

There are 2 packages; bare drive for $146.99 & what appears to be retail version w/cable, manual, Nero & 2 CD-Rs for 156.99.

And this drive's specs report 4MB buffer.

+ free shipping & maybe no tax.

I also bought the drive from the same place. the 156.99 deal isn't retail it's OEM but does come with Drive, Cables, Nero, and 2 CD's. The latest firmware you can get off of the the Japanese or German Teac sites. just go to the update/support sections under Storage Products. I love the drive just wish I knew more about CD burning.

I have a few questions do I need to enable DMA on the drive? I tried to copy a CD that I made a few years ago (Had a crack in it) and it took 10 minutes with the burn proof kicking in to do it. Both CD Drives are on the same IDE channel, so should I seperate them? Just never setup this kind of thing to burn. Also it's on the Rig in my profile. Thanks!

Diablo6178,
Try asking this question on alt.comp.periphs.cdr. A lot of times people start wars about this issue, but it is up to you to deside.

Is Write-Proof the same as Burn-Proof? Anyone know who makes this cd burner? I am looking for a burner that has true burn-proof technology but I don't need name-brand(i.e., plextor, tdk)

why do you say this is not a good deal? A cd burner with burn proof for $150 is not bad. I don't personally care about DAE. I just want fast burns.

Well, this is at least a "warm deal" ............. it's sure the best value for the money I have personally found........and NO rebates to screw with ...........!
This drive is quiet, fast, has "Burn-Proof" just like the high $$$ drives ....... I really don't care if it is a re-badged what-ever.......as long as it works good!
I just ordered the OEM kit ...w/free shipping.......

I'm not familiar with Clone CD though,.... is this part of the Nero software, or do I DL it from somewhere else ............. ?
Thanks for the info.............
and Happy Shopping ;-)

If you go to Teac's website the only burner they show there is the CD-W512E which does not have the burnproof technology. A guy at work has one of these and cannot burn at 12x. He can do 10x but no 12x. I would be leary of this unless Teac can verify that this is an accurate product description.

The Teac 12x10x32 part no. CDW 512E - No Burnproof.......

The Teac 12x10x32 part no. CDW 512E B - Has Burnproof ........ (Write Proof)...???

I telephoned esbuy.com today to check my order status and specifically asked if the drive has Burnproof .............. the answer was "YES".
So I hope they are not lying ...........

Anyone answer my clone CD question ............... ?
Thanks for the info ......

you will need to update 512E firmware to support clonecd. i believe you can download the firmware from teac site. as for burn proof, i think it supported.

Yes, these Drives are Sweet! I bought one about two weeks ago from ESbuy.com for the exact same price and I must say its great. Yes the ones they sell are the 512EB with Burn-Proof. As for the firmware, it will work with CloneCD with the builtin firmware 2.0A, but with that firmware it won't support RAW DAO. Upgrading to the 2.0B firmware fixes that and makes this drive one of the best I've ever used. Just go to google or some other search engine and do a search for 'the firmware page' and it should have a link to 2.0B somewhere on there.

The way I see it, for $10 more, it's worth it for an "authorized and legal" version of Nero, 2 cd-r's, and the manual. Besides, I don't wanna have to yank another IDE cable from one of the PCs here at work.;)

would this drive happen to be a rebadged plextor or sanyo, or does teac make it? either way it doesnt matter to me, but it would be great if it was a plex like the iomega compusa drive was so that you could use the firmware from plextor
