which one do you guys think is better? I know the teac is white, but its the Sony white or black? I'm just looking for something to game w/, so I'm not worried about audio extraction and all that, just something fast and quiet

Smooth, teac it is. I never really needed a 52x cd-rom, so I think i'll stick w/ this 40x. Do they have any good dvd-drives? Thanks again

TEAC currently is the fastest 40x in DAE speed, the drive is kind of loud, but very fast and reliable.

<< How is the Teac at reading and transferring data? >>

It transfers it like most 40X drives... 17x on the inside tracks and 40x on the outside. And it does reach those speeds.

The TEAC 540E is probably the best CD-ROM drive made (of course, I only have my POS Creative drive to compare it to.). I would definitely get this over the Sony.

And so far, I haven't heard of TEAC making any DVD-ROM drives.

I'd go with Teac. I have a Sony 48x and it's great. But Teac is good for cloning and pretty much everything else.

Yeah I am gonna spring for the Teac, and get a pioneer 106-s (Considered the Toshiba...but man does this slot load look nice!)

So the Teac should be fast enough for my games, and a smooth cd-reader?
