but creates just a handful of jobs.

For the last decade, anti-big government candidate Carl Paladino has pocketed millions of dollars in tax breaks by promising to jump-start economic revival in and around his native Buffalo.

Today it's clear that promise remains unfulfilled.

A Daily News probe found Paladino's companies netted $3 million in tax breaks through a program called the Empire Zones - while producing a grand total of 25 new jobs.

To justify tax breaks in one instance, he sold a dozen vacant lots he owned to himself and claimed hundreds of thousands of dollars in "real property investments." Seven years later, these "investments" remain what they were - vacant lots.

btw this is posted in a right wing newspaper.
It's ludicrous the people the tea party are running around the country.

It doesn't surprise me. Republican rich people are selfish fuckers out for themselves. Democrat rich people give billions of dollars to fight cancer, hunger, and disease.

no surprise here. Look at any republican... Any one of them. They all follow the same trend. Oh well, as long as they can get idiots to vote for them who cares right?

No, we're proving that giving tax breaks to the wealthy doesn't work.

So what is the next option? Tax the hell out of them, let Obama spend it, and we go up to 20% unemployment? If tax breaks are so bad why does every rich Democrat take advantage of them? Do they hate America?

Tax breaks are stupid and should be gotten rid of.

Multiple attacks on Carl Paladino on the first page of P&N is interesting. You'll probably sink him.

The partisan hackery is strong with this one. Lol republicans politicians get tax breaks, democrats just don't pay their taxes. Only an idiot would think that only rich republicans are out for themselves, and rich democrats aren't, or that rich republicans don't donate to charities, and all democrats do.

That's not fair. Not only do I realize how ridiculous he sounds. I also realize how ridiculous you sound when you suggest he sounds ridiculous.

You don't have the faintest idea just how ridiculous either you or he is, and that despite the fact that nobody is more ridiculous than me.

Paladino is a living, walking stereotype of a New York thug. He could have been cast in The Waterfront with Marlon Brando. It is truely scary that a major party is running such a candidate for the governor of one of the most important states in this country.

OTOH he could provide oodles of comic relief to us non-New Yorkers if somehow he is elected.

Funny thing is, this is a non-story given that people will vote for or against him solely based on his comments about gay people.

Yeah, I can't believe the GOP would run such a candidate. Democrats would never have a candidate who was busy frolicking with hookers in that position. Oh, wait.....

Did I miss something? $3 million for 25 jobs is $120,000 per job*year. Sounds reasonable to me.

Furthermore, TFA states:

He said citing the small number of new jobs created by Paladino creates a
"distorted view" because the state does not report the number of jobs created
or maintained by tenants, just those the landlord creates
