I got my plextor 16x10x40 from Necxdirect for $240 including tax and shipping. The TDK may be a rebadged plextor, but the performance of the plextor is just a little bit better. Check out the review at www.cdrinfo.com. $229 plus tax in any state is more than $240.

VBoy...It's a 16x10x40...for $229

I paid $229 a few months ago for a 8x4x32 TDK at Costco.
Hard to believe...I think I will sell it and buy the 16X.

Though the 12x TDK VeloCD may be a rebadged Plextor, I don't think the 16x TDK is a rebadged Plextor, actually I think it's a Sanyo. But, I'm also interested in the 16x Plextor SCSI when it comes out as I already have the 12x TDK...

GetInMyFatBelly is right, I think it's a rebadged Sanyo. And I don't believe TDK ever released SCSI versions of their drives in the past, so I don't think a SCSI TDK will be out. Didn't I read something about Plextor giving up on SCSI drives a couple of weeks ago in the General Hardware forum?

Why do they call it Burn-Proof when it should be called Coaster-Proof or Goof-Proof???Burnings the whole point.Whew, been wanting to say that for so long.I feel better now.

Burn Proof stands for Buffer UnderRuN Proof ... Thus BURN Proof ... Not really an ancronym, but kindof I guess ... Who cares though, Burn Proof is a great technology!

That is for the 12X and the price is after rebate if you look at the ad. If you want the 12X, buy.com now has the rebate on their site and the final price would be $171.95 + shipping.
