Allisolm,
Thanks for calling our attention to these.

This is the report from Nero 6.6 & the TDK 8x (labeled made in Taiwan).
Sez they'll go up to 24x - this is the report from my gnewegg NEC 3520a.

I just picked them up and they were on a shelf that was mislabeled.
$7.95 pricetag had 4Xs but I asked the clerk to scan and it came up that the 8Xs were also $7.95:D:D:D

Really? What speed discs? The older 4x TDKs were RICOHJPN or CMC. The newer TDKs, so I understand, with the new packaging/spindles, are indeed T-Y. This is hot!

(Anyone manage to PM at BB yet? They should, I think.)

You are quite right and in addition, it is my understanding that 16X is the theoretical max as it requires 10,000 RPM.

That said, I tried burning an ISO file (FC3-i386-DVD.iso) and could only burn @ 8X.
I made a copy of the screen dump of the Nero report mentioned in my earlier msg. so as to post later and I will do that tomorrow.
Personally, I do not burn more than 20-30 disks a year, so am probably only an X-spurt.

Friggin sweet! I have a $25 gift card from Christmas and I actually went to CC yesterday to pick up some media, but decided to look at the reviews online first for the ESA 100-pack DVD+R for $29 (which turned out to be total crap); boy am I glad I had some self-restraint!

Has anyone tried this media with the BenQ DW1620? It would be fantastic if they could do 16X! I still have yet to see my burner write that fast. FYI, the Velocity 8X DVD+Rs that go on sale periodically @ Amazon for $7.99/25 burn at 12X, and I haven't had a single coaster with 100+ burns.

Doh!
I now know it stated 2.4X not 24X. Also, 16X was not stated in the dump I referred to earlier.
I see better with my new glasses (see avatar) but I still can not see the . in the 2.4X on the screen dump.
That said, apparently there is a possibility of getting these to 12X with a firmware update on the 3520A but it is still in beta.

I had some 4X Taiwan TDKs laying around and these went at 8X really slick.
Back to TYs exclusively.

Both mine wer "Made in Taiwan". Don't know the media code. So far I have had 100% successful burn rate and DVD player compatibility (only using the +R).

Why is it junk? I just bought 4 packs because it looks like it's printable. As long as it burns at its rated speed and plays fine on my set-top DVD players I'm happy! :)
