Circuit City 2/13-2/19
TDK 25pk DVD+/-R $7.95 no rebates. Available to order online for in-store pickup or purchase in-store.

Nice deal, indeed! Thanks allisolm, one question though: If I select in-store pickup, will I still be able to select the version I want?

I'm DVD illiterate. I'd like to take advantage of this deal but I don't know if I should get +R or -R?

I have a Plextor 712X that's supposed to burn anything but the kitchen sink. My primary DVD burning will be getting VHS home movies burned to DVDs using a conversion gadget...

Anyone, please help. +R or -R... What's better?

You order the version you want. They have different SKU numbers. The links in the OP take you to either the +R or to the -R. Order whichever you want and then pick it up later.

Does anyone know the media code on these? With TDKs, it might be TY or TDK (great), Ricoh(pretty good), or CMC Mag (poor). I'd hate to buy them expecting TYs and get CMC Mags...

MrLuckyPants, as for the media codes, the Made in Japan (Taiyo Yudens) TDKs are the ones that you want (look near the UPC).

DVD-R:
Benefits: Better DVD playback compatiblity within home DVD players.
Drawbacks: Older technology and less money behind the format means that they come out with faster media and burner technology slower. You will frequently see DVD burners that will support (for instance) 16X DVD+R and only 8X DVD-R.

DVD+R:
Benefits: Faster speeds, more inovations like Double Layer discs (8.5 GB)
Drawbacks: Will not play is some home DVD players. If you know your home DVD player will play DVD+Rs then there is no reason to not use them.

Oh - you meant, can you get the MANUFACTURER you want? Then the answer is no - or yes. If you go and pick up whatever they have pulled for you, then no. If you go, check out all the ones they have out, choose the "version" that suits you, take it to the customer service counter with your order paper, then, yes, you can get that one.

Yes, that's what I originally meant. I'm an in-store pickup n00b, so I was unsure regarding that issue. 😛

word of caution, the TTG02 will not burn that well on most liteon drive. They average about 70 PI. I got better result by switching write stratergy. The best startergy for TTG02 is yuden02 i think.

Now I'm gonna have to go to there and see what they have, I have tons of the Fuji Film (TY) +R's but they don't work in my xbox so I've been wanting to find some -R's that will burn at 16x in my Pioneer.

if they don't have it at CC, PM to bestbuy

TDK from Costco is from INDIA same as Costco TDK CD-R. Circuity City had TDK from Taiwan...could be Ritek (which is good, but not bad). Only Japan made ones left are Fuji, Maxwell, and some Verbatium (they recently switched to Taiwan).

I hear bad things about the India CD-R, but i don't know about their- DVD-R
