tdk cdrw

I am about to install a tdk velocd 52x24x48x. I'm a novice at this so I thought I would look for a little advice before jumping in. My system is a pII 266 mhz on a Biostar m6tba motherboard. I also have a pci card with a open slot. Should I plug the cdrw into the pci card? Should I keep the old cdrom drive or just use the cdrw? Firm ware??? Any suggestions would be greatly appriecated. Thanks

first, you don't use a pci slot to install a cdrw
you use a ide cable to connect it to the motherboard

Also be sure to jumper the drive correctly.

What he means (probably) is to set the jumper on the CD-R/W to master and the older CD-ROM to slave. The burner is much faster than the CD-ROM (more than likely) so it should be the master drive.

Is your CD-ROM on it's own IDE channel or is it sharing the primary channel with your hard drive? If it is on a separate channel, make sure your BIOS is enabled to detect the additional optical drive on the secondary IDE channel and place the burner on that channel as master. If the CD is on the same channel as the hard drive, get another IDE cable and put the two optical drives on the secondary channel using it. You'll get optimal performance that way.

I hope this was clear, I have been enjoying vacation way too much lately 😛 .

I am hooked up and all seems well so far. I burned a cd and it works fine. No coasters yet. It only burned at 4x so it took a little while. My guess is the pII 266mhz is the reason for the slow burn speed. Thanks for all of your help.

Hummm, how fast is your media rated for and what speed did you select before burning?

Try using the regular Nero and see if you can choose the write speed right before you begin the writing process. It should be right around the area that asks if you want to have burn-proof enabled.

In Nero Express you should have had the option of selecting the burn speed.
Try a dry run and see if you see it.
