I bought the sony 510a but soon thereafter realized any old dvd burner will do. After researching both dvd-r and +r , it seems neither is all that better than the other. Even if the +R wins the war you will probably be able to get the -r dvd's for some time to come.

So how long before the free dvd +R start showing up?

"So guys, if you don't have one, apply for it, and you will get an additional 10% off."
they chase me down to apply regardless... they must have some sort of quota

I got one pack yesterday. Time to convert family VHS movies to DVDs. Yeah. What is the longetivity of these discs? Don't want to loose these memories. I will probably reburn them in few years on gold DVDs once they will become more affordable (will be probably still a buck for each). I forgot about Target credit card but not a big deal to start with plus one credit card less to worry - worth paying 3 bucks more.

well...actually +r is better. this is why....
+R burns in 2K clusters rather than -R at 32K. This results in faster, more accurate burns. Also, from a coding standpoint, +R, from what I've read, is easier to code for applications that will use it.

All you have to do is check the target guest card option so that it is not a visa card. Just the red target card.

Looked like a good price so I bought a couple of these. I'm using
'em with Neo and this 4x internal Ikebana I bought at Frys (Nero
says its a NEC 1100A) & I'm getting a lot of errors. Half the discs fail,
some burn at 2x, some at 4.
Anyone else see this or am I doing something wrong?

Nero has a software that burns DVD? I'm currently using DVDx copy, and it burn flawlessly, however, i did not know if it is burning at 2x or 4x, does anyone know how do i check in DVDx copy? It completes a copy in about 15 mins.

I am using the Nero Express software that came along with my NEC ND-1100A drive (sold OEM through CenDyne), and it burns all DVD+R media at speeds upto 4x flawlessly.

Note that it can't be used to backup your existing DVD's - I use DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink or IfoEdit for that purpose, and then use Nero Express to burn the DVD Video folders produced by the latter two onto the blank DVD discs.

I actually bought the TDK 20-disc spindle from Target yesterday, and will probably something on them tonight.

Got 2 ea and a 5pack of the DVD+RWs (2.4 speed)
The Target in Littleton had a good selection of the -Rs & the +Rs all at the same price for the 20 pack pie.
Good find, Thanks, ImaWreck...:D:D:D

I have the DRU-500a and I've used the 2X media numerous times. It works well and I believe it is on Sony's recommended media list.

Picked up some today at a Philly Target. I'm amazed they actually had them there but they had two cases of the -r and one cracked case of the +r.

So as a warning to other Philly people, don't waste your time in Snyder Plaza.

Picked a pack up today. The packaging is a little deceptive. It is a 50 dvd/cd spindle with only 20 DVD+R.
The lable plainly states 20 but the bottom is hidden by the label...

"Contents are sold by weight, not by volume..."

I bought three spindles. Two were right-sized for a 20-pack; the other was 50-height, but 20-pack. Same discs, though; both made in Taiwan.
