So after supposedly being cancelled, I got a surprise package in the mail today.
I ordered:
TDK SYSTEMS 32X/10X/40X veloCD ReWriter Internal EIDE CD-RW Drive

and today (in very crappy packaging) i recieved:
Plextor 40X/12X/40X PlexWriter

I looked on the box and the package came from Dell Product Returns
Does this mean I got a refurbished product?
I know TDKs are rebadged Plextors, but I don't think my Rebate form will apply to this burner(?).

What do you guys think I should do?

Hmmm. Cheapest price I see for them is $123 (OEM), so it depends on what Dell is charging you for this. I'd find out if it's new or not too. But, (just IMO), I never mess with any refurb mechanical devices (cdrom, rw, printer, scanner, etc.).

Well the original order was for the TDK 32X VeloCD.
So without the rebate I payed the same $110 as you would for the TDK, but they sent me this Plextor.
How do I find out if it's refurbed or not? Should I keep it anyway? pretty good deal...hehe

Yeah, and "only" $15.00 shipping! Those jerks are a rip-off for shipping.

ihaveanevilplan, if it's NOT a refurb, I'd keep it. I guess you'd have to ask Dell if it's a refurb. I know on most HD's, a refurb has an "R" somewhere on the label in a different bold font. Might be the case with CDRW drives, but I wouldn't go by that. At least if you DO see it, you know it's a refurb. Look ALL OVER the unit good, and on the box, packing papers, etc. for something like *factory reconditioned* or the like.
