I think Best Buy will also have this deal, but Best Buy seems to be showing TDK 8x instead of 4x.

Which is better for write quality/lowest errors? I don't mind writing at 4x for maximum quality.

4x RICOHJPN-R01 vs 8x RICOHJPN-R02

Also be careful as it seems from another thread that TDK 4x DVD+R uses both CMC and RICOHJPN depending on the packaging.

I went Monday to the Staples here in Boca Raton and Putttthhhh, they were gone. None in the store and the bozo searched and said, "uhh they're pretty scare in all area stores".

Third time I went to Staples for these "bargains" and third time they didn't have any in stock. Reminds me of Best Buy in Kansas City years ago before the state sued them. I was trying to by a Webber grill on sale and the salesman admitted they not only didn't have them in stock before the ad ran, they were back-ordered with rain checks for the next couple of shipments. Oops.

Ditto, looking at these tomorrow, anybody who recently purchased 8X +r's, enquiring minds wanna know. ;)

Cybertron: So far my NEC 16x has burned everything I have thrown in it flawlessly. And by flawlessly I mean movies play perfectly in all my DVD players over and over and over again due to 2yr old ;). I have used what are supposedly the bottom of the barrell Sonics ($18 for a 100) to Verbatims (MCC code) to Riteks and a few others. The only question I have at this point is longevity.

I've gotten 3-4 of the TDK 4X DVD+R 25-pack spindles from Staples in the past 6 months, and they all burn fine at 8x in my Lite-on burner.

Are the days of FAR 50-pack DVD+/-R discs edging closer? :p
The days of FAR 50-pack CD-Rs are definitely coming to a close. If you still want FAR CD-Rs, stock up during the upcoming holiday sales.

Thanks allisolm for the CompUSA update. :)

Too bad that CompUSA is a drive from here, and BestBuy is often hit-or-miss with matching prices without a physical paper copy of the ad. Otherwise I'd try to get the BestBuy that's down the street from me to match the price on the Sony's, if they had any "Made in Japan" ones in stock.

tangent1138, from my understanding reading some of the other threads here, the "Made in Japan" Sony's are T-Y, whereas the TDK's are most likely RICOHJPN media (even if the label says "Made in Taiwan", in some cases, I guess?), although there are some reports that they are CMC. I would bet on RICOHJPN more than likely though. Either one are supposed to be good quality, I haven't yet had a chance to try out any T-Y DVD media in my NEC ND1300A yet. Still deciding whether or not to keep the more recent 1.B firmware for media-compatibility reasons, or go back to a hacked 1.08 + bitsetting firmware for player-compatibility reasons, with the caveat that I might not be able to use cheaper or newer media in the drive. :|

The CompUSA Princo 2X DVD-R and OM ValueDisc 4x DVD+R both seem to burn and read back acceptably in my NEC at this point, but the Princo was unreadable after burning until I flashed the firmware. (Didn't have ValueDisc to test on original firmware.)
