TDK 24X for $60+Tax (After MIR) at CC

Well, here's my story.

First of all I went to BB this morning. No TDK drives, no TDK price tag at all. So I guess my local BB doesn't carry this drive at this price, or maybe they hide it somewhere.
But I still want to try my luck over CC. So I went there, show them my receipt, scanned price tag from this thread, and told them the story. The lady at CC said she was gonna call and verified they price tag. I said alright. After about 30 mins(man that was long!), instead of the one who talked to me, another lady came to me and said they couldn't do the pricematch because my local BB DIDN"T EVEN CARRY THIS DRIVE. I was so pissed because I know my local BB DOES carry this drive, just maybe they don't put it at $60 deal.

So I know that b*itch was lying. I was going to yell at her but I suppose I shouldn't do that and I walked away.
Ohh well, so the deal is done for me.

$60 for 24x TDK after rebates.

Hey CDelle80 I tried the same thing you did. She told me that since it was such a large price diff that they had to call and verify. I thought I'd have it when they couldn't get anyone on the phone at BB but then the lady went n the back and got on her "red phone" and verified they had none in stock. I even went to far as to say that I had them holding one for me from earlier in the day when it was in stock and thats why whoever she spoke with told me they had none. She didn't buy it and so I was left with no further argument. If it works for you great you win. But just letting you know that idea has been tried here in SC and it was no go.

One thing that amazes me, some of you guys find really slack people working at these stores and they make these deals go through for you. I'd consider our stores to have some very slack employees but apparently none nearly as bad as in other places cause this stuff never fully flies around here. They seem to be a tad sharper.

BB is the worst at Customer Service, I had tons bad experience b4 when PM. so i never go BB to pm.. but other stores in my area carries TONS slackers! most employees are NEWBIES, don't know a thing and lazy to call other store to verify price ( all store's phones are broken, cuz no 1 will answer them)

my favorite PM stores are: staples, OD and CC, Fry's too!
Worst: BB CUMusa and OM

Best Buy is by far the WORST price match store. I tried to price match the Vtech 2.4Ghz phones that were selling at CompUSA for $49 to the same model that was selling at Best Buy for $159. I even went over to CompUSA and bought one for $49 and showed it to the jerk BB Manager. He still wouldn't honor their 110% off the difference low price guarantee because the clerk couldn't verify AVAILABILITY :Q via the phone. I really hate Best Buy! :disgust:

in this case, if i'm you, I can make that manager get FIRED.. cuz BB policy makes the PM just for guarantee customer get's lowest price

since you buy 1 at compusa at lower price, that ALREADY verified the availability. go tell that manager if he won't give you 110%, you file a complaint to BB about BAD service, that'll enough to get him fire! ( this time, most manager should be SCARED and let you get $$$ back, cuz they don;t want to be in trouble! )

Believe me I threatened! I even had him give me some paper and a pen so I could write his name and store number down. He wouldn't budge! :disgust: I'm going to compose a disgruntled customer letter to the Corp office when I get a chance. Maybe they'll send me something

Worked perfect here in Chicago. Bought it at CC for 129.99 yesterday and today went back with BB shelf tag and Scanned receipt and they gave the difference back. The final price was 64.92. I guess it all depends on the manager at the time

The TDK only has a 2mg buffer? that's how much my 8X has. Isn't that a little small??

Don't need a large buffer with burn proof.

Ok folks. I hooked my drive up. It is the 241040B with the Blue tray and Blue door. It was manufacturered Dec 23 2001. I hooked it up with ITS provided IDE cable and it was instantly recognized in bios and device manager. As soon as I put in the nero CD it auto ran and quickly installed the nero software. I proceeded to burn a CD to make sure it worked and it seemed to go fine. When some of you said the drive didn't read CD's...did you mean it didn't read CDR's or some RW's or only music CD's or wouldn't play clear sound but did read? Like I said I'v only burned one disk and read the provided software disk with it but it seemed perfect. I DID NOT have an audio cable connected at any time I did this. IS the audio cable the issue you all talk about? Info much apreciated so I can find out if this drive needs to go back. Thanks all

I have about 10 50pack spinndles but they're all max at 16x!

Try your 16X stuff. My TDK burns 24X just fine on my Fuji and Kodak 16X rated media.

I remember putting this exact same TDK drive in my mom's system in early december and we bought some 24X rated FujiFilm at that time. When we got home we discovered that ot had been produced as 16X but they had put a 24X sticker over it. They work fine....I do not know about cheap crap though....

My sister has a ton of 24x memorex media and I was going to trade her for my 16x since she only has a 16x burner but I decided to try burning a 16x rated cd @ 24x just for kicks and viola! it worked! I have burnt 10 CD's so far all at 24x even though the media was only rated at 16x. So don't throw away that memorex stuff just yet.

Also, for people who haven't bought the drive yet, you can just look on the bottom of the box and it says "SMART-BURN is a trademark of LiteOn IT Corp". So if you see that you can be 100% sure you aren't getting a Sanyo or whatever.

I have one question though: Is there any way to tell what firmware you have? Also how do you know if that is the firmware that will burn SD2 discs. If it is not the version that will copy them, can you just reflash the TDK with LiteOn firmware to the correct version??

Ordered at CC online and picked mine up today. Politely asked if they'd PM the copy of the BB shelf tag I had, and the guy gladly did. Raised an eyebrow and said "wow, this is a goo deal." I told him I'll always try to deal with CC before BB because BB is SUCK (which is true, I wasn't just kissing his ass! )
Anyway, final price was $64.94 with $70 in rebates.
This drive will replace the Philips 8X that I bought last summer....still waiting for the Fvucking rebate on one of them :|

I just installed the drive I got. No problems yet reading cds. Havent tried burning yet.

I ordered it express pickup. And when I picked it up, the CSR just stamped my printout and said thats my receipt. Is this the case with others who have done the express pickup with CC? Should I go back and complain and get a real receipt?

Does this drive work with Roxio Easy cd creator 5. My easy cd creator won't recogognize it as a recorder, just a cd rom, and when i went to Roxios web site to see what recorders are supported it says 241040X, NOT A or B. WTF?

InverseofNeo, I went to add/remove hardware in control panels and told windows to uninstall the drive. I rebooted and it detected it again and asked for some drivers from the XP CD. I rebooted it again and it can read CDs now, and I have the audio able connected.

By the way, this drive has warranty right? So if all goes wrong, you can RMA it with TDK.

Well, I am gonna test it out as is. I got enough CD-Rs so if it does screw up then I wont miss them. But if something doesnt seem right then I will try what you did. Thanks SubZero

Okay, so to sum up, some, though not all, people are having a problem with the 'B' version of the drive which is the LiteOn with the blue tray.
Another post seemed to indicated that it had to do with the digital audio cable being connected, and yet another suggested it could be the ATA cable, so to be safe, try hooking it up with the supplied ATA cable, and if that doesn't work, disconnect the Digital Audio cable and decide if you can live with the drive that way.

Next question: This drive DOES NOT burn SafeDisc2, correct? Is there a workaround for this - sorry for the newbie question, but I'm not sure about this one and I'm trying to decide if there's any reason for me to keep my Philips 8X burner which DOES burn SafeDisc2.

Finally, thanks to all who contributed to this deal - I'll remember it next time I miss out on one

Another semi-update from me. I was going to go to CC last night to try to PM but I got there and the guy working was the SAME GUY WORKING THAT MORNING!!! It was like 7:30pm and I had first gone in at 10:30am so that was a big waste of a trip for me. I'm going to try my luck again today.

As for PMing to Fry's if they wouldn't do BB, no luck there either. It's not advertised in Fry's paper for Sunday or even yesterday (haven't checked today's but I doubt it).

Anyway, wish me luck on getting the PM... I'll let you guys know what happens. Too bad it's going to take like 2 weeks to get the drive though (it's on special order)
