TD: 200gb seagate $90 AR

Not a bad price before the rebate - only a bit more than the mwave price. So if the rebate does not go through, you are not totally hosed - but it still is TD....

I have never had a problem with Tigerdirect.. It seems to me like there's a Tigerdirect bashing bandwagon. I have received every rebate from them since I started ordering from them in 1994 or so (about 10 rebates total), they have accepted returns on two different orders I made with no restocking fee, and they send me a super fun catalog every few weeks that makes for good 'sitting on the toilet' reading material.

Good price on the drive.. Already ordered one for $100 after rebate a few months ago, though.. It's a NICE drive.. completely quiet.

Dang I just bought a 250Gig maxtor after a price match at staples for 130.00

I would much prefer the quieter longer warrantied seagate. Think its worth it to return the Maxtor and try for this? AT 130.00 its okay, but if the rebate goes throught hen its a great deal.

Or if someone is looking for a bigger drive, I would be willing to trade my unopened maxtor for one of these if you deal with the rebate and pay for shipping

I have to be honest, I have never had a problem with tiger direct. I just recently bought a hard to find keyboard and it came as described, brand new, shrink wrapped, and shipped extremley fast.

Hmm.
129.99+11.57 S&H = 141.56 - 40 = $101.56

Seems pretty good, does anybody know if I'd be taxed as well? I live in NYC. Thanks.

How much of a noise differential are we talking between seagates and maxtors? I mean mine is going in an HTPC that will sit roughly 6-8 feet away from me and below ear level. It will be mounted in an Antec overture, closer to the back of the case then in a normal tower case and basically sitiuated between 2 fans, these fans will be very quiet, but I would think all of this would keep it at below audible levels, am I wrong?

The noise difference is noticeable. Maxtors have a high-pitched whine, while the Seagates are quite muffled.

D@mn, that's not good to hear considering I already have 4 Maxtor 120gb HDs that I bought a while back for my HTPC. Hopefully the Antec Sonata will keep it a bit quiet.

Ah, I don't know, I already have a maxtor in my main rig, which is drownd out byt he fans, but I just stuck my head down near it and accessed it, and while I heared the whine you spoke of, I highly doubt, even in a totally silent rig that I would hear that from 6-8 feet away. I would still prefer the seagates 3 year warranty, but man I hate rebates. The reason I bought the maxtor instead of a seagate before was cause the maxtor had an instand rebate and the seagate had a MIR.

Well, all I can say is that I had a Maxtor in the Antec Minuet I am using as an MP3 client for my stereo system, and the whine was unbearable. I replaced it with a Seagate and the noise is still noticeable when the stereo is off, but it's a bearable noise. Not so much a whine anymore as a light hum.
