tcpdump in virtualbox

i am trying to use tcpdump in linux mint 12 on the latest virtualbox on the host windows 7 pro; however tcpdump just says "no suitable device found". the vm can connect to the internet though. any ideas how to fix this? i am a novice with linux

wow, haha i feel really stupid. the problem was i just had to run it as root
