TCP Optimizers

I have used several of these TCP Optimizers over the past few years and none of them made much if any difference in my internet speed. If you just got time to kill, go ahead and try them out. Seems to be a waste of time in my opinion.

The TCP/IP stack works most efficient with parameters that are taking into consideration the type of the Internet connection.

Many people think that the optimizer can ?Squeeze? more ?Speed? than the one allocated by the ISP and dedicated by the quality of the lines that bring the signal to your computer. Using the optimizer for such purposes ("Squeezing?) is a fallacy.

However if it happened that the parameters are set for less than optimal settings (like MTU set for Dialup, while actually you have DSL), using an optimizer would make sure that you get what ever is max. possible out of your given connection.

SpeedGuide.com TCPoptimizer, and DSLReports.com DrTCP are safe; if you make a mistake you can always change, or reverse the values.

First test your speed at http://miranda.ctd.anl.gov:7123/, there are other NDT servers (google NDT server), this one at Argonne National Labs seem to be the most consistent. After the speed test is completed, scroll down to the bottom of the More Details tab, and it will tell you if the Rcv Window/MTU etc need to be changed, then use DrTCP from dslreports.com to make the changes (you can do this manually as well - you are editing the registry).

I have done this many times on different pcs at home/work, and always had an improvement in the download side.
