TCP/IP vs. NetBios

On my home network (5 PC's plus one laptop, all running XP or Win2k), I use TCP/IP networking with fixed IP's. The laptop and my main desktop also have Netbios enbled so they can share files while the laptop is logged into my work via VPN. This all works but when transfering files between the desktop and the laptop I cannot measure the LAN traffic.

With further testing I found that whenever Netbios is used instead of TCP/IP, the network traffic does not show on windows taskmanager, DU meter, or Netmeter. The most surprising is windows taskmanager since Netbios is a Microsoft protocol.

any ideas?

do you mean NetBios over TCP/IP or are your refering to Micro$oft's NetBEUI

If the latter, then you are apparently monitoring TCP/IP traffic, of which NetBEUI is not.
