TCP/IP help needed in XP Pro

I am trying to disable my DHCP as well as assign an IP adress and subnet mask to speed up my XP boot-up. I have done this before, but now there is no option for me to assign those properties. I go to the properties for my TCP/IP protocol, and that option is just not there. I had it before, but somehow lost it. Does anyone have any idea how I can get those back? I have no idea how that option has disappeared.

Make sure you are logged on to an account with administrative rights, i.e. the Administrator Account.

Normal users cannot change TCP/IP info in 2k or XP.
 
double-click My Network places
click on view network connections
double-click the icon for your connectin
under 'general' tab, click on 'properties'
select TCP/IP and click properties button
enter your IP and DNS values here
 
Insidious:
It is not the DNS I want to change, I want to edit my DHCP (disable), as well as assign a subnet mask of 255.0.0.0. None of those options are available where you are referring to, and they used to be there, that is where my problem is. I can assign a DNS and an IP, but I have no need to that, as my IP address is dynamic. I need to change the subnet....and I can't
 
Saltin, I am the sole proprioter on this machine, therefor, I do not have an administrative account established. it is established by default, so I can do anything on this machine I want without the need for administrator priveleges.
 
right click on Network Neighborhood ->Double click on "Local Area Connection" -> Click on properties -> highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) ->Click properties. This should do it

I know that should do it, but that is the problem, IT DOESNT. The options to make the particular changes I am talking about ARE NOT THERE. I am trying to figure out how to get them there. They used to there, but are no longer.

Guess I don't understand what you are trying to do -- by unchecking "obtain an IP address automatically" you are disabling DHCP -- checking "Use the follow IP address" allows you to assign an IP and subnet mask. What option are you looking for?
 
there is no specific option to disable DHCP....

when you enter the IP and DNS manually, that is what disables DHCP.

If you are not seeing the choices to modify your TCP/IP settings in the device manager, and

you are logged in as an administrator (default as you say) then, you probably need to remove the

TCP/IP protocol, boot, and then add it again..... something is wrong with your system.....


So, the next question.... what have you "tweaked" that you are not telling us about?
