I know this has been asked before but my searches turn up nothing useful.. at least to me. Anyway, I have a tbird tbird 750 @ 1.05-1.1ghz... the problem im having is w/ the temp. Using the via hardware monitor, i am reading temps from 28-33c idle but when I start cranking it up (using prime95 torture test) the temp gets to 58-60c! I dont see how it can jump up THAT much... thats almost 30c difference between idle and full load... Anyway, I was wondering how accurate the readings are... I have an Abit kt7-RAID board that the chip is running on. I also have a globalwin fop38 hsf w/ arctic silver and am housing it in an Antec sx1030 case w/ 4 80mm fans (two blowing in, two blowing out). Tht temp just doesnt seem right to me though...

any advice is appreciated. Also, I know Mikewarrior2 comments about this quite a bit so if he(you) have any suggestions and/or comments... please post.

thanks.

wierd...

Did you guys have to bend the CPU temp reader back a bit to get the processor in, some Abit KT7 boards are like that, you can damage it a little doing this and make the hardware monitor give perculiar readings, usually ones above actual.

RagiePew,

Accuracy issues, aside, those temps are a bit warm. How's your case cooling like, and what heatsink are you using?

Mike: The case cooling is as follows:

Case: Antec sx1030
Fans blowing in: 2 80mm
Exhaust fans: 2 80mm
One powersupply fan
one fan for the geforce
Heatsink/Fan: GlobalWIN FOP38 w/ Arctic Silver

When i feel the air blowing out of the back exhaust fans, it feels pretty cool.

the thing that gets me is this... i just got home and have been running prime95 all day... the temp now is at 59c but as soon as i stop it... it drops SHARPLY. I just turned off prime95 about 2 minutes ago and the temp is already flirting w/ 30c... to me that seems wierd that it will go so sharply up and then just tumble down. All the while, the system temp (as reported by the via hardware monitor) only goes from 23 idle to 25 full load. Funny thing is this, since i turned off prime95, the cpu temp tumbled down but the system temp actually went up 1c to 26c... thats wierd...

Anyway, thanks for any advice...

What's strange is that T-birds almost always DO not exhibit sharp drops from IDLE To Full Load temp(as far as thermistor measurements).

If you aren't experiencing any problems, this wouldn't be the first instance of a KT7 reading temps too high for core tmep. So if you don't have problems, i wouldn't really worry about it.

mike: I'm not having any problems.. been running @ 1.05 for the past few days just to give the chip a "little" break =) but no problems.... well just one... i can run prime95 all day (ive run it for 24hrs straight) w/ no probs but when I crank up 3dmark it always locks. Nothing else locks so its probably something else (i hope at least). I am also oc'ing my vid card so it may be that... havent tried 3dmark w/o oc'ing the vid card... anyway, thanks for letting me know...

in that case, treat your temps as "reasonable" and you should be okay. The core's are rated to a max 90C, which means 60C sustained should be no problem.
