TBird O/C success story

Got a TBird 800 from ATACOM today, with an ABIT KT7 and Vantec AMD-S36040 cooler (probably not the best cooler, but the best Atacom had and the best I could find actually 'in stock'!). Paired with Mushkin 150 HSDRAM

No pins removed from this TBird. L1 Bridges were cut. Used good 'ol pencil trick to re-attach them.

100x9 900Mhz runs rock solid so far at default voltage. Idle/low use temps (regular win apps, Netscape, email, Word, etc) are 30-34C while heavy CPU usage (Quake, etc) temps go up to 43C.

100x9.5 950Mhz runs great with 1.85 volts. Heavy use temps go up to 50-52C. Too much heat for me, so I dropped back down to 900Mhz.

TBird had green tint (Austin fab?) and these markings ...

Your results are very similar to mine. My TB800 runs rock solid at 900 1.725v. I can get 960 (9.5 x 101) rock solid but I too need 1.85v. I've backed down to 900 since that is plenty fast for me.

I really wanted to get 1 ghz but I've tried everything and I just can't get there so instead of stressing the CPU at 950, I thought I'd let it run easy at 900.

On the other hand, if I could have gotten 1 ghz, I'd run that TBird at 1 ghz till it died no matter how hot it got.

My PIII 800 runs 900 @ 1.6V

I wish I could push the voltage to something other than 2.0V (my only other option).

I bet I could get close to 1Ghz if I could use 1.85V

2.0V is just too high for me. :-/

hmm... i looked at that site, i found it funny that vantec is about two buildings down the road on the same street as atacom.

That is funny. No wonder they only offer Vantec stuff 🙂 It's a decent heatsink (huge alumninum) and good ball bearing fan on top. Not too difficult to install nor does it hang over the socket much interfering with surrounding capacitors. Does a decent job cooling too. Not sure, other coolers might do better though ...

I have a Thunderbird 900 @ 1ghz. Iam using a Alpha PAL35 with a Delta 6900 rpm 60mm fan.

This thing is rock stable, will post at 1066, 1.1 is too far.

-my 2 cents.
