What is the best value on a HSF for the Tbird if you want to over clock a little but also want something quiet. Looking to put it on either the ASUS A7V or the ABit KT7 board. And where do you suggest buying it. I looked at Alpha reviews. Looks decent, not sure where to get them. thanks

If you don't mind the noise GlobalWin Fop38. I am using it and it works great on my TBird 900. It is a tad loud though but you'll get over it.

I have the FOP38. It's great for cooling. I tried to have it on overnight to crack RC5. But even though it was 5 feet away from me, the noise was unbearable! I had to switch it off in hte end. :(

One place to buy TaiSol

2CoolTekis also a good place to buy.

Wouldn't the CEK733092 also be good since TaiSol has it listed for up to 1.2 Ghz Thunderbirds. Would it handle a Duron oc up to 1Ghz?

Thanks guys. These seem pretty good. What do you all suggest to be a pretty good one but at the same time pretty quiet? Looking at the under 30 dollar market. I am so far leaning toward the TaiSol or an Alpha and not sure which model of either.

Rhodent,

It really depends what speed BIRD you are using and how much you plan on overclocking. The new TAISOL CGK742092 is a great choice if you want to maximize cooling. Nerdsbyte.com appears to have the best deal, they even have a selection of fans to upgrade. The standard low-profile delta is pretty good, but they offer Ys-Tech and the 37 CFM Delta if you can stand the noise. The newer Taisol models have the revised 3 lug clip design, which spreads the pressure over all three lugs on the socket 462. With a single lug design, its real easy to break the lug off the socket.

I am looking to put this on a Tbird 900. Some overclocking but not looking to break a record. It also needs to be pretty quiet. Are you saying that the CGK742092 at nerdsbyte has the new 3 lug design? I know these chips require a good bit of pressure to be applied and the last thing I need is to break one off. thanks

I'd also like to have one with the IDE type power connector instead of one that hooks to the board cause I have had bad luck with that type in the past. Kind of wanted to stay under 30 bucks. Does it seem that the trend is that any with the new 3 lug connected are the more expensive ones?
