Tbird cpu dead?

Well if you put another CPU in your board & it works then the otherone is probably dead,do make sure it is seated properly, my best mate last week installed a board & CPU ,he phoned me for tech help ,anyway it turned out he did not seat the CPU properly.

Btw last week I had my T-bird 900 go faulty after 7 weeks of use(just my luck).

🙂

you mean put crank it back and put the cpu in there then crank it down? Or do you mean sit the heatsink on that cpu perfectly?

See, my issue is that the pads that came with my cpu have came off, so the heatsink may not be perfectly on the cpu. Of course I get nothing but the error code for the cpu if I use either heatsink...

But I can tell you that the core is getting really hot when I turn the system on (ive ran it without a heatsink for about 2 seconds.. burnt my finger 😛 ) So, if heat is going to the cpu does the cpu have to be still working? Or does the heat come through because the pins and it doesn't matter if it works or not?

If the pads have come off I would send it back for a replacement they are there to protect the CPU.

🙂

I ordered some more pads, but the cpu was OEM. There is a guy on hardforums by the name of bower64 who makes some cool stuff for protecting your cpu, and he sells pads too. Copper caps that go right on top of the core between the cpu and heatsink is something else, sells em cheap too.

Im going to put the pads on and also the cap but the cpu is in all likelyhood dead... a 2 month old tbird 800 I paid $200 for and have barely gotten any use out of... damnit!

what error code are you getting? if your cpu's dead, you should be getting nada~~~! Also , i think it's a really ,really bad idea to post your t-bird without a heatsink / fan. They burn out almost instantly.
