Update:
I cut 2 "breather" holes (3 1/2"
in the back of the desk behind the exhaust fans of both the power supply and rear fan. I can feel the airflow behind the desk....temps now down to 53C under load and and about 50C at idle.
BUT it is a lot cooler here today than the last few days...
BTW - I tried to mark holes for the extra case fan I got just below the one that fits into the 'factory' location (in the upper rear) and I found that it wont fit! I guess I will have to put this one on the side of the case.... or maybe move the current one up a bit and squeeze this one in there. I'd better get some dremel tips!
Built this system a few months ago...never really checked temps at first.
Got MBM5 and temps used to be around 45C. I have not made any changes since then. I have an Enlight 7237 case with the stock fan in front, and I added one in the rear. Yesterday I got a new CPU fan from my local computer store (the Globalwin FOB38) and the kid said 'this one will bring those temps down'. Well, it hasn't changed them a bit. The old fan was a cooler master. I removed the thermal pad from the HS and cleaned well with goof-off and applied a thin amount of "tech spray heat sink compund" (rat shack only thing in stock) on the cpu.
Right now im at 54c at idle.
System specs:
Asus A7v133
AMD 1Ghz T-bird not OC'd
256Mb pc133 infineon ram
Ati All in wonder radeon AGP
Creative Labs SBLive! PCI3
Kingston NIC KNE111TX PCI4
Maxtor 7200RPM 10GB Ata66 primary master
POS cdrom 52x primary slave
fujitsu 4mb secondary master
Maxtor 5200rpm 6.7GB secondary slave
Enlight 7237 case stock fan in front another fan in rear below PS
300 watt PS
Windows 2000 Professional
I think my bios is rev 1005c (not the newest)
So what do you guys recommed I do? I'm wondering if I got a new 60GB ata100 7200rpm drive and got rid of those smaller drives if that will bring down my temps. I have another case fan, but I gotta pop in a hole for it, whats the best spot?
Thanks for all help.
