Tbird 1.4 overheating?

I was in a counter-strike match last night and my computer froze up on me. It was the first time EVER so I kinda got worred. I checked the temp and ran some benchmarks and I see the temp going up to the highest 62C. Could this be the problem? I thought the tbirds were safe to run up to 70C. Anyway, do you think that's the problem? I don't really care about the longevity so I don't want to deal with the DUST problem unless I really have to... I have the SVC GC68 hsf (hurray for 8 bucks =D) and I haven't cleaned out my computer in about 2 years.
 
Yep, that's your problem. Luckily for you, Wal-Mart now sells canned air for $5 a can, in the electronics department.

edit: And you should really clean all of your fans while you are at it. Get some cotton swabs and some Windex, and clean both sides of the blades, including the heatsink's blade, and you should be all set for another 2 years.😀
 
i use an old toothbrush to dust off all the built up dust on my heatsinks and fans
seems to work pretty good for getting inbetween things

lol i just vacuumed it... so clean now (Thanks Oreck!). Idle temp 2 degrees lower... but still far from the 45C idle i had when I first got the heatsink. O well... thanks~
 
Well, if you're wanting to get back to 45°C idle temps, you could either spend $5 on a can of compressed air or spend $8 on another SVC heatsink.

Eh? Buy a new heatsink of the same model? I didn't know they wore out after 2 years!🙂

You could try reapplying Arctic Silver to it. Sounds like the grease may have dried out. While you have it off, go outside and spray it off with the hose to clean it up nice. Or you can just blow the dust chunks out of it with a lungfull of air (or a can of air if you have it).

 
i agree about the compressed air. Even after a few months blowing it around a case will reward you in a cloud of noxious grey dust. An awful lot of dust can get in a computer around the fans and what not. BLow 'er!

45C idle temp, didn't know that, i also got the same proc. 1.4 T-Bird on an I-Will mobo and guess what??? 65C for idle and 69-72 loaded, i've been running that kind of setup for quite a long time now and nothins wrong (over 1 year)
 
After 2 years any TIM is going to start to crack even AS. Since you have cleaned the Sink; now take off the Sink and clean the bottom of it and your CPU and replace with something like Ceramique.
 
ehh good call... I'm running 47C right now after just cleaning it out and fooling around with fsb settings. Ima go find my AS2... WERD
