Taxact.com has the best deal on tax software. do the federal with efile for FREE. the state returns are like $12. I've used it the last 2 years and like it a lot. Works just like online turbotax but the interface isn't quite as polished. And it keeps asking you to upgrade to the premium service for another $10. Last year i did taxact first and then did it all on turbotax also to compare and the refund was exactly the same. Turbotax lets you start your return for free but wont let you print the forms or efile without paying.

I've also been using TaxAct free version for at least 3 years now (VA has its own free online state filing). I think I did the same comparison to TurboTax last year, and had the same results you did: they matched.
