People Primarily B!tch about taxes because they dont keep all the paperwork they need and they want to cheat the system as much as they can.

The Tax code Is complicated because people in this country are getting Dumber that Sh!t everyday. Dont Blame the "Tax" Code, blame our education System.

Math is scary.

Actually the problem I have was made clear, which forms? Because the system is so complex I needed the equivalent of 20 separate forms. How is that easy? Hell I could barely figure most of the ones I needed from the IRS site. Its not simple, its designed to confuse and serve special interest

I'm not sure the complexity, or lack thereof, really much bearing here.

Using bogus W-2's is an old scam. You print up a W-2 showing a bunch of withholding taxes (that were never withheld or paid), file the reurn and claim a refund.

But I'm not quite sure what to make of this. Whether it was their clients who claimed bogus stuff, or Jackson-Hewitt. Did J-H get any of the money? etc. I'm not sure how it's the prepares fault if a client presents them with a bogus W-2. We really don't have a way of knowing etc.

Switching to a flat tax or sales tax won't change much if anything. In Europe where VAT is big, there are more accounts & lawyers working on it than income taxes. It's the "money" it's not the "forms".

That's why we need a national sales tax system and be done with it.

And an Amen to you, as well.

I'm quite surprised you would support this CPA. Arent you an accountant? It seems a simplified tax code would be pretty bad for your bottom line.

The need would shift from individuals to business.

Go buy a house or a Car or setup and IRA or a stock Fund. They all have tons of forms Too.

Heck create a business Partnership, sell explosives, hire a contractor, buy a handgun, import a food product, sell a contract for Service.

these all require forms and the correct ones for the situation.

Why shouldnt there be different tax forms for different situations.

and Go get turbo Tax down at Best Buy. it Will help you get the proper forms. It works on a computer. Ask a geek Squad agent for some help, hell take care of you.

Apparently the average citizen can't tie his shoes if he cannot look at a W2, and read the box numbers, and put it in the correct line, then add or subtract. I say reform education, not the tax system. Geez people you learn this stuff in third grade!

"Tax system definitely needs reformed."

It certainly appears that the American education system needs some reformation, given the results.

Also, as with many others, the logical connection between the government issuing fraud charges against an alleged cheater and the claimed systematic failure of US income tax structure totally evades me. Please try to explain in something more than conclusory declarations.

A company, apparently commits fraud and Shivetya, the apologist for corporations, blames the government?

Of course, wouldn't expect anything less of the America haters.

isn't the tax code something like 60,000 pages long... I'll blame that.

 the average joe sixpack has a w-2, some interest, some dividends, maybe some stock sales, mortgage interest, property taxes, and some charitible contributions. that probably takes up 20 pages of tax law. the rest is corporate tax law or speciality personal tax law such as expatriate taxation, foreign national taxation, or military taxation.

also, the monkeys that they have at jackson hewitt preparing tax returns are not accountants. they take a class given by jackson hewitt to prepare returns. most have not gone to college and graduated with an accounting degree. no offense to any jackson hewitt employees here.

Exactly. I would not trust the employees at Jackson Hewitt or even H&R block for one second with my taxes.

I saw this yesterday; made me laugh because I was wondering how they were sponsoring that Nascar this year 😉.

Excellent! Nascar will have one less sponsor! At least some good is coming out of this.

The vast majority of accountants and CPAs do not deal with income tax issues and the vast, vast majority are not self-employed.

Have you ever looked over the AMT forms or Schedule D or Business property amortization. It's not as easy as you make it sound.

Well since you've brought it up again, I'll ask what is your rational for taxing consumption (sales) rather than production.

TIA.

I could see where that would be a good thing, as long as the basic neccessities were excluded, otherwise it would be horrible regressive towards the poor.
