Tax returns

Alright, I've heard a bunch of people today talking about getting money back from the IRS.. Everyone acts like they won the lottery or they got lucky some how.. I find this kinda strange since the money they will receive is the money they already earned and had taken from them.. Do people not realize this... Hello... It was already your money.. I'm not thinking this because I didn't get a return, in fact I'mgetting a pretty nice one but I would have rather used my money when I made MY MONEY.. Just my thoughts..

Yep, basically the more money you 'get back', the more money you've allowed uncle same to borrow from you at a zero percent interest rate. What do you think the bank would tell you if you want to borrow money at a zero percent interest rate? 😉

I always pay as little as I can get away with, and then pay the rest at the very last minute.

Well, I was pleased to discover that I owe $1000, at least I got to have the money for a little while. Last year I got a large refund, and was annoyed that I had let the government borrow my money.

jeremy806 (Well, I am not that pleased, I'd be happier if I only owed a couple hundred.)

Owing a bunch of money in taxes to the crooks ....errrr... I mean the government is good if you know about it and have planned for it, and if you don't end up having to pay 'underpayment' penalties.

Is there a site where you can go to approximate the amount one will end up getting back or owing? I have the forms my employers have sent me.. thanks in advance..

I am getting a pretty hefty return, but it's not because I intended to. I got a large bonus, which was taxed at the maximum tax rate, and I'm getting a chunk of it back.

As for estimating taxes, if you plan to do your own, just pick up some tax software. TurboTax works well enough for me, but you may still want to follow along in the IRS forms to make sure that you don't miss any chances to deduct anything.

Yeah, I had expected to owe a lot. So, I can live with it. Taxes really tick me off. But I figure paying taxes is better than being unemployed, count your blessings I guess.

All I can say is get a good tax guy that can get you your money. I don't mean H&R Block, but a REAL one. I used to pay every year when I did it myself. The guy I use gets me thousands back now. Itemize!!!!!

Hey Hamburgerpimp,

Do you mean hire a CPA, a tax lawyer?

I itemize, as do many homeowners, but what can your tax guy do that I can't do myself.
