tax return time

woohoo! An extra semester's tuition to write-off.
Hopefully we're gonna have a huge return this year.

(I know... it's an interest free loan)
But, it's always great getting money back.
Several 1000, hopefully...

Anyone else expecting a large return?

Almost forgot: donated my Pathfinder to charity.. get to deduct the value of that as well.
Receipt says almost 4k value... it wasn't worth that much, so I'll only deduct what I think I could have sold it for.

i dont think i can deduct much this year. my tax return has been close to zero for the last two years. thats too bad, i would love seeing some extra money at the end of the year.

Actually that's good. The money's better off in your pocket for the year than the government's.

well, cerebus, ideally, you want the return to be around 0 each year.
That means you didn't loan the gov't any money at no interest.

I look at it as a forced savings plan.
On a 5 k return, the average $ I'd have had in a bank is 2500 over the course of the year... 2.5% interest on that means I missed out on about $125 in interest.

I never do my taxes by april. I got two extensions in 2004 and didn't do them til October

I'm scared to find out how much I'll owe.

I cashed out a 401k without any withholdings, plus worked two jobs for a while.

I'll be doing good to break even.

I had ababy in November... cha ching
I paid my Januaray AND February mortgage payments in 2004!

I sure hope so. not toaly sure how my short term capital gains and dividends will impact my return though.

with taxes I do. I just hate sitting 2 to 3 hours while the tax man, and no I don't go to H&R block, I go to a REAL professional, has to go over every receipt with me. I just hate sitting thru it, and I'm also lazy about finding reciepts too.
