I think I made a mistake. I was doing my taxes for my brother last year (2002) and he only made $3928 from his internship.
i filed the taxes for him and he received a refund of $314.

I read the requirements for filing this year and it stated you wouldn't have to file unless you made more than $4000+ (i forget the amount). is this bad?!?!?! I don't remember what the requirements are this tax year.

This year he made a little over $4k. He still lives with my parents. does he have to file?

Got my 1040 book right here... you only have to file if you made over $7800 (single, under 65). BUT, if your employer withheld taxes & you're under the $7800 limit, you need to file if you want a refund (otherwise, the IRS will keep your money!)

No,
less than the minimum = your choice whether or not to file
at the minimum = no choice you must file.
(like shekondar and your tax booklet says.)

Read more. It's like $4800. They have many stipulations and rules that contradict other rules and whatever. I believe this is only if you are a dependant.

You can file if you make $300. If you make $300 and they happen to withdraw money from you, you won't get a refund unless you do file!
