Do you guys use the self tax preperation software available in stores to do your taxes?
Is it simple to use?

I hear TaxAct is giving there standard version for free.

if u make under a certain ammount, are above/ewlow certain ages, or fall into certain categories theres a lot of "free" tax websites out there that'll do it for ya. I used them in the past and every year worked out fine.
This year however make too much, not a student, and not enough time so might be looking to H&R block this season.

25,000, single no dependants.

very simple,

but also need something for my mom, 30,000 single no dependants.

edit: H & R block charges to much, 120$ last year first time i used them.

I used the H&R Block online tax preparation and submitted them through it as well, cost me like $30 all together. But then again, I haven't got many complicated deducations or anything. I tried some of the free programs and then also the H&R Block one. I decided to use H&R so I could do it at work 😉

Taxcut two years running now. I won't use turbo tax because of that spyware crap they had going a while ago. It's not there now, but fvck them.

Unless one has a large amount of refund coming, it is better to mail in the return. Why pay $20+ to e-file it.

Getting Tax S/W may be worth it; paying some-one else to do your taxes is not unless you either have such a complex return or can not understand simple questions that are at the high school level.

Yep, I do software with a paper return. My take on it is that the fed should not be charging for an e-file. It's more convenient to them, but they know that people are so desperate for money NOW that they'll pay $20, but again the f-you comes out. I'll wait two weeks if they're going to charge me, and they're going to open my letter and shift through papers while they're at it.

My Dad owns a business that does Tax Preparation so when I turn 18 Im sending all my taxes to him.

You understand you have to pay taxes before you're 18, right?
