On line 40 on my 1040 tax form it says "Tax" , how do I figure this out? I'm fine up to this point, but confused on what to put in this column. I dunno if any of you can help me out, tax forms are probably different in different states. But there must be a similar bracket.

Any ideas?

Do yourself a favor dude....go and buy TurboTax. Best $20 i ever spent. Been using it for 3 years now and i love it. takes me about 20-30min total to do my taxes, granted im only 22 and my taxes are not that hard but it helps and it insanly easy. Say hello to my $1700 refund!!! Here comes my new 1.2Ghz Athlon :)

To figure out the tax, go to the tax tables in the back of the 1040 booklet. THe one axis has you $, the other your filing status.

Do what frenchie said. Just so you know the tax table for a 1040 is a nationwide thing. You do know you need to fill out both a federal and a state tax form right?
