The apple 23" is a great 1920x1200 panel based on LG's newest 23". It's far better than this Tatung's panel.

The PWD6UY has a rated 60,000 hour half brightness.

the apple and samsung 23" wides are $3000 + though this is way cheaper. i think samsung actually makes the apple, and the samsung version iv'e seen at best buy for $3200 ish.

anyhow, as of now i dont think i'd buy a plasma, as though people are quoting 30000 hours half life, i've already heard stories of people's plasmas becoming noticeably darker after even 1 year. which is bad.

i think your best bet for resolution and cost, is the new short depth projection tvs, such as samsung makes. i've seen them at best buy in the 1200-1300 range, 42" 1280x768 DVI input. granted it is not a pure flat panel like a plasma or tft, but they seem to be great picture wise and are based on tech that last longer (i think the image is made on a tft lcd, with light going through it but i forgot the specifics)

The Apple's panel is LG's, not Samsung's. Samsung does not make anything at all for Apple. Samsung does not make a 23" 16:10 panel at all. IApple's 23" HD Cinema Display also under $2k.

Samsung makes a 24.1", and it's $2500 or so (the 243T). The older 240T is less. The (also older) 241MP is more at $4100+.

what are the refresh rate capabilities? at the 1280/highest res? Personally I can't stand anything lower than 85hz.. if it can go higher than 85 that would be even more ideal.

2nd line from the bottom of OP post.

Works as a computer monitor too (1280 x 768 @ 60Hz Recommended)

The only thing you have to worry about with LCD's is the pixel refresh rate (The 16ms in the original post)

Since LCDs do not update the whole screen there is no difference between 60 and 85hz coming off the video card. CRTs redraw the whole screen 60 times and up. No flicker no headaches.

LCDs are SO much easier on the eyes compared to a low refresh rate CRT.

Hello all, Ralph here, I posted a short review of this LCD several days ago. Since then I have become even in more love with this unit. First off, at 1280 x 768 x 60hz this thing has an awesome picture. It's easy on the eyes, brite and razor sharp. Did I mention zero bluring during fast video, and even faster pc games?

Recently I've been using this unit to watch hdtv content. I thought some of the members here as well as prospective buyers of this unit ( $1,100.00 at Sams Club ) might be interested in a web site I've recently launched that have several screen grabs from my digital camera of the unit ( somewhat ) but more so of the hdtv picture. The link is: http://www.topekapc.com/photos/

Stop in and take a look. I've tried to post pictures that serve this until and its picture well. I will be in the coming hours, as well as tomorrow posting additional content. I will try and include detailed photos of the unit itself along with screen shots of games, my pc desktop and anything else I can think of. Feel free to leave any comments or contact me if there is something you would like to see there.

Regards, Ralph

disclaimer: this website is more of a hobby than a buisness. The link I am including is not meant to be taken as something I am selling. I do however build custom systems that I in turn sale. This monitor is part of one of those new systems. This link is for educational purposes only.

Thanks for the pics!

Do you notice any bright areas in the corners of the screen or along the edges when the picture is black (ie., when you are watching a widescreen letterboxed movie)?

Thanks again.

I've looked hard for this as a few people said this bothered them. Yes I see it, its very faint but its only during boot up or boot down. Once Im in a movie, game, desktop etc, Its NOT seen at all.

I'm interested in the 30 inch model. However, by the time I found it on walmart.com they were listed as out of stock and as far as I know have been ever since. Anybody knows of any place else that might have the 30 incher in stock? Any chance it might come back in stock at walmart.com any time soon?
