TATippingT: Taxis

I am sorry but for their ridiculous prices I cant afford to tip.
If I cant afford to tip a waitress then I dont go out to eat. But I dont tip the cashier because I NEED groceries. And when I do call a cab, its cuz I NEED it, not for fun or as a treat.

I generally tip about 25 - 30%, but I get 90% of my rides reimbursed. On $10 fare, paying by CC means driver pays the 5% charge, so a 10% tip is really 5% tip. Tipping $2 - $3 for a $10 fare is normal in NYC I think. I don't even think there is a 10% option on the automated tip-o-meter when paying by CC. I think it starts at 15% and goes to 30% in 5% increments.

Edit: Tip will max out for me at about $5 up to say $30 - $40. I haven't had a fare over $20 in quite some time though.

Cab drivers accept CC's now? Wow...Since when? 😵 or is this only a New York thing?
I haven't entered a cab in 10 years(Blue Airport shuttle vans don't count) so if you're looing for why I'm surprised, wel...there's your reason.

I saw 10% when using a CC when I was in NYC 2 weeks ago... I forgot what I tipped though.

I never use cash unless it's a $3.50 ride going a few blocks, I'll hand the driver a $5.

They do in Austin. No idea what I tipped that guy I was too drunk to care so I probably just rounded it up to some flat number, pretty sure he did decent on that ride. :awe:

I always get complaints from the taxi drivers when I use a credit card. They act like its the end of the world.
