Task Scheduler (WinXP): Okay to use now?

Historially, i've always disabled Task Scheduler since back in my Win95 days after reading how much it could slow down a computer by eating up clock cycles. I just finished a WinXP installation on a friend's computer and would like to schedule a simple batch file to execute every half hour. Had this been my computer i would have just installed Automate and been done with it, but i'm trying to keep her computer simple and uncluttered. Considering WinXP is modeled more like Win2k than Win9x (e.g. services), is it now safe to use the Task Scheduler without having to worry about taking a hit in performance?

I have always done the same thing by disabling Task Scheduler. Until a couple days ago. Apparently some new programs like the new Norton products require it to be active. Since re enabling it I haven't noticed the slightest bit of difference. It just sits in the background taking up no recourses until needed.. So I say go ahead and start it back up..
