Task Manager in W2K

i have a machine that is having problems launching the windows task manager. when logged in as a user who has admin rights, the task manager just closes right away. however, when logged in as administrator to the local machine, the task manager loads up fine. am i correct to assume this is not virus related? any ideas what could be causing this?

This may indeed be virus related (have you scanned with current defs).

i ran norton antivirus with the latest definitions installed. nothing came up as being infected with a virus. don't know what it could be.
