Well well things are really looking awesome for TAS and this project, we're really making an impact!😀

I hope all the probs are sorted out soon so we can start crunching like mad!!

The problem I have seen with some of the machines (and others according to the project forums have had the same issues) is when you run a machine with more than one BOINC project. When the manager switches projects and takes Rosetta out of memory, it can sometimes fail. The macchine that is doing most of my work right now is only running Rosetta...

According to the forums, the way to fix this is to leave Rosetta in memory (which I do not have enough memory to spare on some of the machines) or only run one project, in this case Rosetta.

I only run R@H, 24/7, not other projects AND I leave it in the memory and still I all my WUs fail. 🙁

If a program is not actively running, the memory it is taking up in ram will be paged to disk if other active programs need it.

When the first program activates again the memory will be moved from disk back to ram.

Is this not correct?

All? That is bad ... 🙁

i don't understand the "leaving it in memory" wheres that option or is that a task manager thing?

it seems most my units fail after exiting and restarting. i see a entry in the log about "cpu benchmarking" and then i notice i get a bunch of entrys saying "requesting 0 seconds of work". then i'll notice it hanging.

That is a option in BOINC. Go to your account, click on "View or edit general preferences", 4th line says: "Leave applications in memory while pre-empted?
(suspended applications will consume swap space if 'yes')".
As you can see it does not stay in RAM but takes some space (depending on project, up to 250 - 300 MByte) in the Swap file (=pagefile.sys). This file is dynamic, i.e. the file size adapts (within limits) depending on the requirements.
It does not matter if you have 512 MByte or 1024 MByte RAM the RAM-memory page of the BOINC-project is on the HD. That is why I always choose yes in this option and I've had only 4 WUs fail (on a total of 11 comps) during the last 5 days... 🙂

Yeah, pretty much. In my experience, when I leave in memory I notice a slow down. Not to mention that most of my machines are not lucky enough to be dedicated crunchers. And I cannot afford to let my users experience any slowing in performance. 🙂

You are right, mrwizer, it slows down the machines - perceptibly - because the swapfile on HD is a really slowest part of "memory". You need a speed-demon of a HD not to observe when the projects are swapped in and out of the swapfile ... especially in Einstein and Rosetta, not so much in Seti.
I see a clear difference between my SCSI-systems, ATA and the older IDE-systems ... where the SCSI is fastest (some controllers have also a big cache on the controller - in my case 256 MBytes) which of course helps. The older IDE-HD have almost no cache at all while the ATA have 2 - 8 MBytes, which - for Rosetta is way too small.

Congratulations! 😀

Here is the table!

That's right, w00t! 😀

I don't know how long I'm going to be able to hold on to the top spot, there's a lot of TeAmmates with a lot of CPUs behind me! So while I'm here I plan to enjoy it as much as I can, here's a round of drinks for everyone 😎

Great! Sorry to hear you're having problems of your own on R@H.

The only way this could get better is if R@H ever makes me UOTD at some point 😉

What is a UOTD? Sounds more like a nasty disease than something nice ... 😉

LOL Peter, any special reason you changed from cat to dragon? 😛

No, no special reason, but I am reading a book about dragons, and I am going after something, and a dragon can fly where a cat dares not go, and - ahhh what the heck - you'll see! 😀
