The winning project for November 2008 is "The Million Credits Month".

We will crunch projects that are close to 1 Million credits and get them over the limit:

3x+1@home: 676 478 cobblestones just now.

LHC@Home: 658 012 cobblestones just now.

Seti@home - Beta: 654 140 cobblestones just now.

Sztaki: 708 160 cobblestones just now.

Spinhenge@home: 390 214 cobblestones just now

Docking@home: 304 364 cobblestones just now.

The more detailed stats will be posted later @ TAS!

Let's get crunching!

Edit November 1: inserted links...
Edit November 8: Stats update after one weeks of crunching.
Edit November 15: Stats update after two weeks of crunching.

I'm almost at 100% on 3x+1, with just a couple of hours left of SIMAP on one quad.

Crunch a Bunch!

Here are the starting stats of The Million Credits Month.

I have not done any stats on LHC@Home because there are no WUs just now.
I have not done any stats on Szteki@home because the finished WUs do not give credits reliably.

I have switched horses in midstream: I will be doing 100% Docking@Home as soon as the SIMAP WUs complete (I just go a bunch more.)

My calculations on 3x+1 show that I would not be able to reach 500,000 credits before the TeAm reaches 1 million, so I'll let you guys run up some numbers.

Docking@Home issues one third the credit of D@H for the same time, so it will require more time to crunch. I am unable to run any of the others on the list.

I just went all in on 3x+1. From there, I'll go to Docking@Home when we hit a mill on 3x+1.

Fred, I was reading the FAQ at docking@home and they said some linux distros (ubuntu is one of them) have the memory stack setting too low which may cause charmm to error out.

My machines are definitely set too low:

mark@family-desktop:~$ ulimit -s
8192

So Il set them to "unlimited":

mark@family-desktop:~$ ulimit -s unlimited

I know ps3grid is not on the official list, but right now idlorj & I have generated 386,000 points and by the end of this month, we should be at 758,000 points.

If anyone has a "late model" nvidia card, you are welcome to join us! My 8800GT generates close to 4,000 ppd and only uses a few % of one CPU. ;)

Mark, I had 8192 and set it to unlimited on all 3 quads. I checked my previous results and had no errors. Except for a few aborts.

The week of November 17 to 21 the team of Docking@Home is attending to Supercomputing 2008. During that week we won't be able to take care appropriately of the server and we won't be able to address issues that may arise, therefore we will stop distribution of work from November 14 to November 23. Thank you for your undestanding.
I don't normally do this, but I just set my preferences to keep an extra 10 days of WUs in my queue. That ought to keep me going!

I'll do the same when I hit 250,000.

Congrats to Alyx!! He now holds the highest stopping time for a TeAm Anandtech Cruncher on 3x+1!!

The stats after the first full 24 hours are posted @ TAS.

Click here to get there ...

Just a teaser:

The goal of this month is to reach 1 000 000 credits or more in some projects. Here is the score after the first 1½ days:

225 122 credits needed in 3x+1@home. The goal should be reached in 3 more days.
673 786 credits needed in Docking@home. At this rate it will take 27 more days to reach the goal.
338 551 credits needed in Seti@home-beta. At this rate it will take 25 more days to reach the goal.
590 658 credits needed in Spinhenge@home-beta. At this rate it will take 31 more days to reach the goal.

When the goal of 1 000 000 is reached in one project, the TAS members are supposed to switch to one of the other projetcts. This will probably happen in 3 - 4 days ...

I hit 250,000 credits earlier today in 3x+1 so I moved all three of my machines to docking@home.

I tested spinhenge but the linux client is very slow.
The 64 bit linux client for seti has a bug so all linux folks are borking the WUs.

Hopefully we'll get at least 2 projects with a mill plus!!!

Thanks for the stats Peter!

Hmm we should hit all 4 of them: we need to crunch 1 850 000 credits in November,
In the past months we have crunched between 1.96 million and 4.0 million credits in one month ... looks good to me!

On an other note:

In Docking@home, one of my comps returns many "computational errors". Prime95 is stable on that comp for 29 hours (tested 4 days ago because of OC). Now and then however the comp returns a valid result. None of my other comps crunching Docking@home has similar behavior.
Has anybody seem such behavior in c computer?

I have detached that computer from Docking; it crunches all the other projects (Spinhenge and 3x+1) without problems.

Edit: spelling ... ;)

I guess I'm one of those "glass half empty" guys!!

I figure I may get about 5800 ppd on docking@home with 3 Q6600 quads clocked at 3.24 GHz.

As Rudy Toody mentioned earlier in the thread, these guys are shutting down the project for a week to attend a "supercomputing" conference in Austin Texas.

We'll just have to keep the comm lines open to see where we should go with the comps.

Yay for a high stopping time! Hopefully we get a couple more way up there before the end of the month.

I'm amazed at the power going into 3x+1 from other teams, there's quite a following now. It'd take a lot more than one full month on the project to move our team into a much higher position now. Last month was a 3x increase in project total credit granted.

Congratulations to Alyx!!!

... it's the middle of the night, and my brain is slow. I have read all the posts on this thread, and it feels good to be a part of this team.

I can go back to bed now.

I couldn't find a warm and fuzzy emoticon.

I was able to start crunching Sztaki by running a 32-bit linux boinc client.

The project downloaded 60 WUs!! They take 2-4 days to complete and the deadline is Nov. 16th!!

I don't think my quad can finish them all before then. The admin has been absent over there for awhile so there's a bit of chaos in the forums about the above issue and others.

I'll give it shot at risk 'case we are so close to a mill on that project.

On the road for a couple of days so may not check in.

2 comps on docking, 1 comp on Sztaki.

After I hit 100K on 3x+1 and the TeAm is at 1M, I am switching to Seti@Home Beta. After we hit 1M there, and I am at 100K, I will switch to whatever needs the most help....

1 million on 3x+1 should happen in two days. We're making huge progress there.

I am leaving town on business trip. Back very late Friday or early Saturday.
Probably no stats during that time ... but I'll check in now and then. ;)

I just moved all my machines over to docking@home. But it seems that they are having a hard time with WU generation, so we might have some shortages there.

Anyone who uses the boincstats account manager have trouble adding seti@home beta? It didn't work right for me tonight, I added the account by hand at the seti site but boincstats won't find it yet. I'll puzzle with it more in the morning.

Yes, it's been tough getting adequate work from docking@home. They've started releasing new WUs on a new project (trypsin) and I think they are being a bit cautious before really cranking up the WU generator. I've got my comps splitting time on spinhenge until I can get sufficient work at docking@home.

Looks like w'ere getting close to 1 million on 3x+1!!:)

I didn't have problems with Seti@Home beta, but I was having problems getting it to find LHC this morning.

Edit: I just tried again and BAM found the account right away.

Yep -- we're 7k away from 1 mil on 3x+1. Time to consider a different project. I think I'll go to docking@home backed up by setibeta@home.
