Sorry folks, for not being here (or rather there) for the last 4 days. :(
Have been in Rome (business and pleasure ...) :sun:
My ISP cut the line - and we have had a lot of problems ... now solved.
I'll do the April-stats during the week end - I have all the numbers downloaded.

Edit:
I'll just empty my buffers - and then join ABC@home!

Oh, since there are final exams around - I'll take care of the stats.
I only have to grade the exams - not to take them! ;)

He who would cross the Bridge of Death first must answer questions three, ere the other side he see.

1) What is your name?
2) What is your quest?
3) What is the capital of Assyria?

Well, then I say "welcome" to TAS - TeAm AnandTech Sentinels!

In order to join the "brother- and sisterhood" (yes, we got a girl, Liz ;) ) just create an account at the TAS forums (http://www.teamanandtech.net/f...ndex.php?showforum=42) so you can vote in future polls about our project of the month.

If you got any questions about how TAS works and what our aims - besides fun - are, just ask!

:beer::D:beer:

When you applied for an account, please let us know the username you used. I assume it's Junta, but I just want to make sure. We get a lot of spam registrations, so I want to make sure not to accidentally delete your request. :)

Nice! ABC gives way too many points for all work units, but that one is beyond silly.

Edit: After looking at my own results, I think this one is even better: 192.26 claimed, 1000.00 granted credit. That's a a 5.2x ratio of granted to claimed credit! :Q

Maybe we should have a mini contest to see who gets the most outrageous granted credit on a work unit this month? (Largest granted credit compared to claimed credit.)

That's just not right. Most of you know that I don't do math projects for various reasons, but that's just another one for me to not do ABC@Home. It takes away a lot of value from other projects, when comparing credits. I mean, 100,000 points in MalariaControl for example are earned much harder and with much more "endurance" than 100,000 in ABC. Projects like ABC are part of the reason for never ending "I don't get enough credits" posts on project forums with less but adequate credit distribution.

I'm not specifically opposed to the math projects but I do prefer running the medical projects like Rosetta and Malaria. The points problem with ABC is the worst of all of the projects as far as I can tell. A work unit like these wouldn't be a significant issue if it was a rare occurrence. The problem is that I have yet to see a single work unit with granted credit less than double the claimed credit and I have several in the last few days with more than a 4x credit ratio. I have one other above 5x but the one I linked to is the biggest. It's my personal opinion that the ABC project folks are doing this on purpose to get the extreme "stats junkies" to run the project since there really doesn't appear to be a legitimate/useful scientific reason to run it. The only reason I'm doing it is because it was voted the TAS project of the month (mostly to see how many points we can get as "temporary" stats junkies ;)) and I reached my goals in Rosetta and Malaria so I don't really need to run anything else right now...

seti is very good at giving "real" credit, but the new science app v 8.0 that they have is also mowing through the WU's much faster. So stats junkies and people who want to stay legit can both win!

Yeah, that one is ridiculous isn't it?;)

I pulled my stock quad off malaria to ABC so to directly compare here's a couple of links:

malaria

abc@home

It looks as though it's about 2x overall except for the "abc infrequent flier".:)

BOINC scoring is weird and inconsistent and I see some wu's receiving the same points even though it may take 2x as long to crunch the wu.

It's been a while since I've crunched all 3 quads on the same project but it looks as though I could do 300K this month on ABC@home.

On the other hand, with 2xsmp on fah with my 2 linux quads (3.24GHz), I can do about 8400 ppd. Toss in the stock quad and I can do 300K per month if I get "good" WUs.

On malaria or 3x+1. it would be about 150,000K per month.

It's hard for me to find a linux friendly project but fah, malaria, 3x+1 & abc do seem to be linux friendly. One thing I do know, I will NOT pay Micro$oft for more OS licenses.

All of these projects are basic research. It's really difficult to know where they will lead but I will always support basic research because someday it will lead to future breakthroughs in mathematics, physics and medicine.

He now steps off the soapbox.

cheers everyone and enjoy the weekend!

This project is not fair at all, you're a millionaire on abc in a matter of days, but you really have to work hard to get to the same level on WCG, Malaria or Rosetta. //And I bet these last 3 projects help mankind much more than abc...// <--my opinion

Should we vote again or move to number 2 on the voting list?

I'm not getting any of the "strange" WUs--the most credit I have for one so far is 319. But if the project is giving anyone credits unfairly, I'm all for a revote. I know myself and others take pride in our total BOINC credit, and to have it artificially raised wouldn't be the same.

I'd never condemn anyone of us doing ABC for the easy points! I mean, after all, we're all statswho***!

But then again, each and everyone of us can chose to do or not to do ABC this month. Of course, we could do another vote, if we decide to do so. In the end, it's up to each member - and that's the great thing about TAS: group effort combined with individual freedom!
