TAS-member thread: April 2006: TA was #1 in QMC@Home until the end!

I really haven't noticed any significant differences in sys. ops. with QMC. I had a couple WUs error out (total of 3), but then investigation revealed a bad stick of RAM (memtest86+/Ballistix)

Here are the QMC@Home stats for TAS!
They look really grand! (great is not a good enough word I think):

The team-stats: Please note thet the Team's stats are a few hours old - and thus the numbers above and below are not the same! Sorted according to credits:

Rank ___ Members _____ RAC ________ Credits ______ Name
1 _______ 14 _____ 10 756.24 ____ 318 451.00 ___ Free-DC
2 _______ 21 _____ 11 943.14 ____ 268 326.84 ___ TeAm Anandtech (+4) (50 125 credits less than Free-DC)
3 ________ 6 ______ 5 152.64 ____ 168 902.97 ___ Bodensee-Team (-1)
4 ______ 130 ______ 3 910.19 ____ 146 327.87 ___ BOINC Synergy (-1)

TeAm Anandtech has climbed four steps up and is now in 2nd rank. All of this increase is due to TAS: April 1 the TeAm had an RAC of approx 4406 credits; today it is 11 299, and the TAS-effect is 7 537 credits...

We have passed BOINC-Synergy 1½ day faster, BOINC.BE 2 days faster and Bodensee-Team 5 days faster than I anticipated. We now outproduce Free-DC by an average of 6 640 credits/day (for the last 7 days).

This is partly due to the fact that TAS and TA have increased their production tremendously but also because one of their most powerful crunchers (PCW) has stopped producing credits - it seems that he hit his goal (100 000 credits) and then quit. It may also be something else - a vacation or what not.
😀 🙂 😛

It may very well be that we may pass Free-DC in 9 - 10 days ...
It may very well be, that TA will produce 240 000 more credits for at total of more than 500 000 credits - which would be great! Lets go for it!
It may very well be that TAS will produce 350 000 credits in one month.

OTOH: it may be not 😉

Oh, what a nice day off from work.
I'll do some stats later today 🙂 :
Malaria, QMC, SIMAP and such ...

Hey Peter! I hope you're enjoying your day off work. Thanks as always for your stats updates and encouragement.

It sure is looking to be another great month here at TAS... lots of work for my comps on QMC and we have a chance at the top spot!

Questions for my TAS/QMC teammates: Have any of you noticed that QMC causes 1) big CPU heat, and 2) crashes overclocked systems? Temperatures are 5 degrees higher on most of my CPUs this month (and I don't think it's the springtime weather). Also I have had some overclocked computers which ran SIMAP perfectly last month lockup and freeze on some of the QMC work. Anyone here have any of the same problems?

I have seen the same thing: on all my comps that run QMC the core temps are 2 - 3 degrees C higher. Probably since QMC uses the FloatingPointProcessor much more than SIMAP did. Or because QMC uses other parts of the core --- I have four overclocked comps and have been forced to decrease the OC in one of them - but that one was overclocked from 800 MHz to 1120 MHz (40%). Now it runs stable @ 996 MHz. That was BTW the only Intel-processor I have OC'ed - the other three are AMD 😉

I can well empathize with "PCW" - now that "GRRO" has achieved its E@H goal, we decided to look at other projects too. Fortunately, QMC happens to be one of them. 🙂

Hmmm, put the pedal to the metal, TeAm: the difference between TA and Free-DC is now 56 074 credits!
Lets dump a few results! Now! or: Later.
Awwww, what the h--k, just crunch more, please! 😉

I haven't been able to reach QMC all day long, I get the 106 error message. But I can reach the QMC homepage and all servers seem to be up and running. 🙁

Firewalls are fun - and sometimes not so fun. I updated all my firewalls yesterday - and had to rewrite all the rules - (the new version could just not import the from the old). I am very happy that I use "Notepad" as a editor - and that I had saved the old file ... 😉
I am still not shure I got all the stuff right - but time will tell. At least BOINC works ok. I hope that my comps' firewalls won't develop amnesia. :Q

My firewall is doing OK, but MY ROUTER IS A RETARD! :|

For some reason, it just decides that it doesn't know it's IP addy anymore and I have to go into it and hit the 'DHCP renew' button to make it stop slobbering all over itself.

I think it is when ComCrap goes out momentarily (we are in thunder/electrical storm season here :disgust: )

Sometimes I turn on BOINCView and find an entire screen of uploads waiting (ever so patiently) for me to set them free.

The diff this morning: 50 963 credits. better again. We are gainig some 1000 credits per day (according to RAC), but much more according to the raw numbers (~4000 credits/day).

Quick stats update on the race to first position:

Free-DC: ________ 341 139.79 credits, RAC: 10 522.04 credits
Team Anandtech: __292 436.47 credits, RAC: 11 894.57 credits
Difference: _______ 48 703.32 credits, RAC:_-1 372.53 credits

If we continue to crunch like this we will pass Free-DC in about 7 - 8 days as we gain 6 000 - 6 300 credits/day (average for the last 10 days).

🙂 😀 😛

I just had a nice cup of cappucino, a raspberry cake and real, home made lemonade. 😀
We were sitting outdoors on the porch which I liberated from approximately a foot of snow, in 10 degrees C, sunshine, warm and protected by the house from the brisk spring winds. I hope that spring is really coming ... :sun:
Oh, to stay OnTopic: I have added one more computer to crunch QMC@Home: my BBC-CCE crashed at exactly 50% (the date on the model was April 15, 2006 approximately 30 minutes before the crash).

I think BBC has been responsible for several projects gaining more crunchers 😉

I added another CPU to QMC also... 😎

The TeAm has passed 300 000 credits during the night; stands now at 305 138.14 credits.
Congrats TeAm! this is good crunching! 🙂 😀 :sun:

The race to catch up Free-DC:
_ Credits _______ RAC _____ Team
343 621.62 ___ 10 176.78 ___ Free-DC
305 138.14 ___ 12 263.82 ___ Team Anandtech
- 38 486.48 ____ 2 087.04 ___ Difference

Time to overtake: 7 days. Lets get to it!

Edit: formatting and spelling

Thanks for the update Peter! I will be totally thrilled if we can take over the #1 spot by the end of the month!

I have my own personal goal as well - to crack the individual Top 10. I just got to #13 today and based on the (low) RAC of some people ahead of me, I just might be able to make it. Wish me luck 😎
