i have one, it feels very cheap (and i spent $30 at compusa for it), and with it being plastic, the cooler doesn't act like a heatsink. for the size of my laptop (dell 9100), the fans didn't do much, as they were positioned pretty much towards the middle of the laptop.

i've since changed to a different type that props up the laptop, and then has 2 fans that blow cold air across the underside of the laptop

Not a bad deal , how are these on noise.
I own this one, and it is nicely built, good airflow, but still produces some background hum. link

Friend of mine has the Targus one, I like it much better than the cheap plastic ones.

Thanks for the deal! Ordered one for husband. Can't beat it for $10 - sells for at $30 at Best Buy. Had a couple of other Christmas items to order, so got the free shipping.

Well, for $10 I guess it isn't bad.....I bought one at BB for retail and returned it. Very cheap, stiff, easily broken/cracked plastic. The first one I got the rear two screws were already broken/stripped although it appeared fine in its clamshell package. The second one was intact, but didn't really do much for cooling my notebook........fans just in the wrong place and still didn't like how cheaply it was made.

But again, for $10, well..........enjoy! 🙂

Is this any good? The reviews on Amazon are fairly good but a sizeable number of "this sucks."

For $30, it does suck! But so does the Antec Notebook Cooler since both products suck air from the bottom of the laptop instead of blowing air at it like the Vantec Lapcool. The coolers that blow air at the bottom definitely cool better. Plus, it can't prop you notebook up at an angle.

But, for $10, it's not bad. I may get one.

BTW, my uncle bought this Targus unit while a cousin has the Lapcool.

Does the checkout price at Amazon come out as $23.87 for anyone else or is it just me?

Ah forget it, I'll just get the one at Buy.com.

I ordered one from Buy.com on Monday and got it today. (talk about fast delivery)
At first glance, I though it was decent for $11.42 (AR)
I immediately opened it up and placed my HP laptop on it.

HP laptop tend to run hot and their fans are quite noisy. The fans normally come on every 5-10 minutes.

I have been using the Targus Chill Pad for a few hours now and the Laptop fan has not come on once. Normaly, the keyboard is very warm to the touch but now, it's feels much cooler. (noy warm at all)

I give the Chill Pad a definite A+ rating. 🙂
