Target Rant...

So as many of you may know. I got married last Sunday. Well, we registered at only 2 places....Bed Bath & Beyond and Target. It turns out that many of our gifts from target were things that we did not register for, or we got duplicates. The problem is that we don't have space for all this stuff, so we thought we would return the items to get in-store credit.....wrong. Most of our gift-givers didn't give us gift receipts and Target only allows you to return 2 items per year per driver's license. We probably made them a couple thousand dollars richer by the time everyone bought stuff there.

Anyhow, not only are thier sales associates rude when they find out you're trying to return items, they don't have this policy written clearly on gift receipts when you first register. So do not register there or you'll be stuck with a bunch of crap and feel cheated. BB&B, on the other hand not only refunds without a receipt, they will give you cash back if you return items.

hmm total change from when i got married. WE registered at Target. yeah we got duplicate items. all we had to do was take the registry in with us to turn in the items. we got a mixture of cash and credit. some stuff they would not let us return for cash.

Try going to another Target. Often times YMMV on various retail store experiences/policies.

We were married in May, and we checked into Target registry. They allow return for store credit only for anything on your registry.

If you have an expired receipt or do not have a receipt for an item, print out your registry gift list and present it with your photo ID to a Guest Service Team Member. Because returns and exchanges without receipt are an exception to our policy and are limited, we may need to call for authorization for some of your exchanges or returns. We'll make every attempt to help you with all of your exchanges and returns, as long as it is within the 90 days after the event.

Now, if you received items not on your registry, that may not be Target's fault. Some guests just do not buy off registries. You will have to talk to a manager, but if you explain you receive them as gifts, they may work with you.

Maybe I'll go and remove a bunch of stuff that hasn't been bought yet so I can minimize that issue. We got another registry on Amazon.com which is pretty nice setup IMO.

I'm sure I've returned more than two items this year alone with my drivers license to Target without a receipt.

But either way, I'm going to removed some registered items from my list just to make sure I don't have to go through this also.

I had to work with a manager to get any assistance. I wish they had the authority to call corporate and override the whole thing. You can still add items to the registry after you get married, so I'm going to add everything that we got that we didn't register for....then try again. It's just a pain in the neck. Anything that we got from BB&B was exchanged easily. Target did give us gift cards back, etc...but when a receipt wasn't available, they gave us "suspended receipts" that were good for the $$ amount in the department the items came from....and the suspended receipts had to be used immediately or you would lose the credit. It's pretty messed up.

My wife and I heard horror stories about returning items to Target (such as getting sheets for a full size bed and not being allowed to exchange for king size) so we switched our registry to BB&B and dropped target completely.

The rumor I heard was that someone got a hold of a bunch of kitchen-aid mixers (the $300 ones) and setup a bunch of fake wedding registries at target and then said they got duplicates and returned them all.

My neighbor had a similar issue with Target's baby registry, she got an expensive stroller with missing pieces as a gift, and they wouldn't deal with it.

Try what she did: call the local TV channels and keep calling until you hook up with one of those "consumer" reporters. He got them the money back - AND alerted a whole lot of people to this problem.

we baught a nice stroller from Target. it was missing a paice. we went in to exchange it and they siad fine go get whatever. when we got up front to redo it the person refused to give us a reciept. she said its target policy. So if something was wrong with that stroller there would be NOTHIGN we can do about it. Also they said we couldnt open it until we baught it.

Instead of blaming Target for a policy that is pretty typical at stores (who wants to accept a return for an item that they can't even verify was bought there? That's like paying retail for their own inventory), why don't you blame the people who bought stuff that wasn't on your registry?

Target gives gift receipts for a reason, you can't expect them to shoot themselves in the foot because your friends are idiots.

I'm confused. If you exchanged it, you should still have your original receipt. Target shouldn't take your receipt.

Except it's not anything like that. Target sells a lot of quality stuff. They sell a lot of the SAME stuff you could get at Macy's, but it's quite a bit cheaper.

Giving your guests crappy food vs. giving your guests a less expensive place to buy a gift. Not sure where you're seeing the similarity.

actrually it is diffrent with gift registry. they claim that if you have it on the registry they will take it back. They did when i got married in 98

Yeah, Target's idea of stemware is Dublin Crystal Goblets yet Macys carries a complete line of Waterford stemware. We won't even get into fine china or silver.

I went to a wedding for a co-worker recently who was registered at Target. I looked online at some of the stuff they registered for and was like WTF! There's nothing on here that's worth half a crap. I ended up getting her a $50 gift certificate to Macys instead. She loved it.
