MZ-N707 for $139 this comes with a car kit, charger, and one free MD, it is a netmd player. This model can record audio

MZ-N505 for $90 with netmd and one MD.

I'm thinking about picking up the MZ-N707, since the new car I just bought only has a tape deck. This will be a Quick fix and double as a portable player.

Sounds good to me.

If they are in stock they should be this price, apparently it is nationwide.

MZ-N707 for $139

Wow, i think with that price you will get the blue color. Only less than a month ago the price was 179 at fry's. I have a black/red one which i bought for 199. The player is must get over mp3, IMHO.

what's the difference between these two models?

both are recorders?

What is Net MD? you can put mp3s? what about WMA?

I bought the MZ-N505 from www.ubid.com a couple months ago for $79, works great. They'll probably bring it back. They also had another model for $75.

Was it refurbed? I'm sure it was.

the ubid players were new.

Really everything I've ever bought off of Ubid has been refurbed but, with a warranty.

The only real difference is that the MZ-N707 has the car kit and a base charger "thing".
Also it can record live audio, like a concert, or notes for class. Which the MZ-N505 cannot (at least not with out a microphone amp apparently)

Do these require software to use NetMD, or are there hacked drivers which let you just drag and drop onto a virtual drive?

Apparently you don't want to use the software that comes with it because if you do you have to use there checkout system for copyright protection meaning that you can only burn a song three times onto minidiscs before you would have to check it back in.

But, there is a way that you can use Real Player to download them to the MD player.

or you could do this
Link

So it is pretty easy to get around Sonys crap according to the info out there anyway.

no it's not. all sony recorders are bad for recording live music because you can't adjust the recording volume in real-time. you have to pause the recording, then change the volume.

this is why Sharp recorders are superior for taping concerts (you can adjust recording levels in real-time)

but for regular personal use the sony should suit you just fine

holy shiznit...these are a bargain. Wish Target was open later than 10 (stuck at work :()...in either case, I hope my target has at least one of these models in stock. If they have the N707, ten Ill pick it up, otherwise the N505.

Thanks much, bthorny

BTW, MiniDiscT.com (forums) is a great site with lotsa info on the different models and their hacks. If I remember right, the N505 and N707 can be hacked to perform like more expensive players (altho, the warranty becomes void if yo do this, I think) :)

I was gonna ask where to find the simple burn program. But I found it(the link is on the 2nd page) I got a 707 and was very happy. I do believe that model is discontinued.

They're both discontinued. Sony released new models some time ago.

You can also use Nero to do your NetMDs.

Cuz i'm lazy...

What technological differences are there between these discontinued versions and the new ones that Sony released? I have a old Sharp MD player that I love like no other, and i have to record in real time! What price would I be paying and what would I be getting if I opted for the newer (whatever they are) models?

My 2nd minidisc is the MZ-N707. I got it for like $100 about a year ago when it first came out. I had a friend who's dad worked for Sony, and there is this place called Sony Store for Sony employees, so I bought it through my friend.

You won't have to record in real time It burns it much like a CD player but, a little it slower it claims 32 times but, if you use the regular setting it is more like 16x.

I love this thing already.

I used to own a old Sharp Minidisc player several years ago and this player is much better.
You can eve use the Sony checkin-checkout crap if you don't mind messing with it.
