Target Electronics Clearances - Nationwide but still YMMV

Target stores across the country are going through an electronics transition where most of the department is being re-planogramed (restocked with new items and moved around), meaning that many of the old items are being clearanced. This transition began on 4/24 and will take most stores at least a week or two to complete. There has been some talk about this over at teh hefty wallet, but nothing seems to have popped up here yet so I decided it was time for a thread. Remember that while the clearancing should be nationwide, the discount amount and which items are discounted in what order is going to be heavily YMMV based on location.

The big kahuna - Digital Cameras! The 4/24 transition also includes the removal of the glass "boat" layout in many stores, and involves a new setup with a variety of new digital cameras all around for nearly all Targets. This means that many older cameras, inlcuding display models, are being clearanced off at 30, 50, or even 70%+ off. One of the most common models reported is the Cannon S410 (4mp/3x optical/CF/etc) for $130-175, but most stores have several cameras. One store I visited today had roughly 30 display models marked down and lined up for sale, but two others had already moved out pretty much everything. If you do buy a display camera, make sure to insist that the salesperson check under the boat and/or register for bags/boxes/containers that may have missing parts - most stores do keep the accessories for display items. Also, some managers will give an additional 30% off for display items, but this is at their sole discretion, so don't count on it.

LCD TV's - While most models are still a ripoff even at 70%+ off (IMHO), some people can't get enough of these things. The cheapest I saw myself were 15" models for ~$249.

Computer items - Target is going to cary a lot more in this area (hard drives, more networking, etc) but many of the current items are being moved out. People have already reported finding 16x dvd burners for 75% off (~$24) and many Michal Graves (tacky target brand computer accessories) items for signifacnt discounts.

The other big area that seems to be hit are cordless phones - most discounts here have been in the 30-50% range at the locations i've visited, but as always, YMMV. Remember that back endcaps and lockup areas are usually where clearance items and expensive clearance items (respectively) are stored.

So if anyone decides to hit Target and check things out, report back! 😛 I made off with a ~$158 Cannon S410 and a $58 Samsung 4mp camera. Going to hit the final target in this area tomorrow and see if I have any luck.

How is that 4MP Samsung? My Target has about 10 still in the box, all marked at $50 even.

I picked up a $62 Canon SD110, display model with no cables/documents, but it came with the battery. Picked up a charger off eBay for $12, and a 1GB 66X SD card off Newegg for $63.

Saw a display S410 too, for $126 after the 30%. Passed on that; I already have too many digicams.

Oh yeah, I also picked up a set of Motorola Talkabouts (5 mile range), with rechargeable batteries and docking/charging station for $20.

Geez your targets are a LOT better than the ones around here for clearance! The 4mp samsung (this is a digimax 4010) is pretty good on quality, but there's no optical zoom and i'm not sure what other features it has. I wouldn't really get it if you are looking for something great, but for $50 they make excellent gifts and first-timers for people just making the switch to digital. The one I was at tonight also had a SD110 but it had nothing (not even a battery) and would have been around $150 🙁

And I would grab that $126 S410 if I were you, if even just to ebay it 😱 - Excellent camera and an excellent price. Two batteries and a charger for mine cost me just over $25 with shipping on ebay, so thats around $150 for a complete setup if you were to go that route.

My Target (Rocky Mount, NC) had the LCDs and a few cameras on clearance. There were also a few printers for 50% off, including one of the cheap Lexmarks for $25 (ink included). Not bad for a temporary solution, if you need a printer. There were also plenty off phones.

Arg, my own thread has inspired me to head out the door right now and check out yet another target in the area!

The clearance selection in Gainesville, FL was either picked over pretty thoroughly or it really sucked. I did not see this "boat" that you referred to either.

Thanks for posting abou this deal. I just went and checked out my local Target and there were some good deals. It seems it's been going on for some time at this store though, there were no clearance digicams left. I picked up a Panasonic phone for 1/2 price and a set of FRS radios, alos half priced.

Other great deals I saw but didn't need:
Panasonic and Sony Shelf Stereo Systems
HP Multifunction Printers (PSC 1350v)
The LCD TVs mentioned above, still too high.
Film Cameras
Can't remember the rest...

Was just at a Target in Columbus, OH (lennox) and didn't see any of these items on clearance, just the normal here and there clearance stuff.

"I did not see this "boat" that you referred to either."
the boat is the station in the center of the electronics section where all the cameras, etc are stationed (FOR THE MOST PART)
"$24 DVD burners? I'm going to have to look into that one."
op said that SOME people were seeing them
the stores here have those full price
kind of like when the microsoft networking wireless and altec lansing speakers went 75%... some stores didn't see clearance until much much later

"and didn't see any of these items on clearance, just the normal here and there clearance stuff."
one other thing, people should not let a thread galvanize them into going into a target, or od, or officemax, etc etc etc
go regardless
that way they have a better idea of what is clearance EVEN WHEN IT IS NOT MARKED.
gl really hth

Yes, I know that SOME stores have them. That's always the case with clearance items anywhere. Mine didn't. I wasn't complaining. (hell, I picked up a $33 DVD at staples earlier this week). Taking a roam through a store put me about 0.1 mile out of my way. No big loss there. They had an okay price on some soda that I picked up, I needed more for my minifridge. So no loss at all.

when i checked on monday, no dice....everything was regular price. And the cameras the boy said they will only sell come the last day of the month??? i didnt feel like arguing. So i'll check tomorrow morning. And then i'm headed to Long Island for the day (i'm from jersey) so i'll check there too!!!!

I checked my local Target in CT and they said they had their clearance sale about two weeks ago, and they aren't carrying the Canon S410 anymore. 🙁

went to my local target last night in upstate ny and got the sony T1 for 139 plus 10% for opening the target card.

that is including the tax. cute little camera got the display they had everything for it. I got it for my wife. The battery wasn't even charged. WOOHOO!!!

Hmm..nice post and info, OP.

Will have to head over Sat. morning and see what they have left..... 🙂

Wish I had gotten on this earlier (for the good stuff). Nice find OP! Went to one Target in LI NY...mostly crap left. Picked up some cheap firewire cables, though. The digital cameras that were left were not worth the effort, and no LCDs. Some film cameras still available. Lots of el-cheapo tabletop CD/radios. I may try another Target tomorrow.

Thanks again.

$.74 4-packs of 60w light bulbs also....picked up a few.
