Taping and Burning Music

I'm wondering about the legality of making copies of CD's, either through taping them or burning them.

Is this considered piracy in the same way as downloading music of the internet, or is it covered by some other rules?

**I'm not asking whether people *think* it should be alright, but what the currently laws are...

Thanks 🙂

Making a copy of a CD is perfectly legal under fair use. Although the RIAA would like you to think otherwise.

Is this just if you make a copy for your own use, or is it the same if you make a copy for a friend?

Does this friend already own a legal CD?

it's not illegal in Canada to download and burn.

the thing about copying a tape is that the quality degrades with wach copy made, CDs are exact and there is no loss, thats why they dont care about tapes

you can copy you own CDs for you own use (fair use) but if you copy it and give it to a firned, that is bad
