tape drive

Hi,
Do you think it is necessary to shut down a NT/Win2k server if you try to connect back a scsi backup tape drive which you have plugged out few days ago.

???

Is the tape drive internal or external? I've hot-plugged internal SCSI tape drives before with no problems, but you always run the risk of a short (unless the backplane specifically supports hot-swapping). If it's external, shouldn't be a problem.

its external, and once unplugged the drive is gone until next restart.
any idea?
