Tape a 3-pin connector to a 2-pin fan?

i have a 2-pin fan that i want to use but i cant find an adapter so im wondering if i can snip the connector and a 3 pin connector..

then use the 3-pin connector and tape teh tailed fan together using electrical tape

do you think that would work or is there a way or a tip on how to do it?

thx for reading and helping me out🙂

you can do that...just have to be careful. many times, powerful 2 pin fans will draw too much current for a 3 pin mobo header to handle

also, one of the 3 pins is for rpm monitoring, so make sure you get the correct pins

not sure of which one is usually +/-/rpm , but i HAVE seen similar posts around here regarding that, you might want to try some keyword searches

electrical tape will work ok, or you can use "wire taps" (available at radio shack)

You might want to put a large draw fan on the 4 pin cables that connect to the HD's and CD-r units instead of the 3 pin off the motherboard. You should be able to cut the wires and place them into the 12v holes and tape it up nice, or make a solider 2 wires to the fans off a 4 wire extension cable.

i did it!! and it works!!
its just a 92mm 42cfm fan so i dont think its that much power. i did snip them and tomarrow im getting some heat shrinks from radio shack
thanks for helping me out
